New to the Forum--Greetings from Virginia!

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm Abbie and am from northwestern Virginia, in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Charlottesville. I'm getting banded on April 21st and am just so excited! I'm on my fifth day of full liquids (have to do that for 14 days prior to surgery!) and it hasn't really been that bad. I'm staying busy in the garden and that has helped.

Do you all have names for your bands? My husband and I brainstormed last night and came up with several:

-Lappy Gilmore

-Tracy Chapband (which would be good, as then we can make up new words to "Fast Car" as if the band is singing to me...like "Abbie's gonna throw up, ate too fast and I can't control it" to the tune of "You got a fast car, I want a ticket to anywhere..."

-Neil Diamband

-Barbra Streiband

-Jennifer Bandiston

I think I've settled on Lappy Gilmore! Though I will still probably think of my band singing Tracy Chapman songs to me while I PB and that will make me laugh.

I look forward to this journey with all of you and am happy we can lend each other support!

Welcome to the board, Abbie! It's a good place to be for finding out all sorts of information and experiences, as well as hanging out with empathetic people.

I have a sister who lives in Sperryville, VA.

I'm jealous because you have a date- I'm still waiting for mine.

Love your band names!

Weyers Cave?!! We are 5 minutes from Weyers Cave, in Fort Defiance...a tiny little place with one stop light! I bet your family knows where it is! It's a small world!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
