Back from the trip from hell

Recommended Posts

So here I am three weeks post op and having just returned from a week long trip to my in-laws due to a death in the family. Let me tell ya it was the trip from hell.

My DH decided that he really did not want to fly to TX, instead he wanted to drive there with the 10 yr old and the 2 yr old in the back seat. Yep, all 23 hrs in the car basically non-stop. If that were not enough to grate my post op nerves my little one decided to get rid of our new car smell with vomit. Nice..

WELL we arrive to my SIL's house in one piece, now with both childeren vomiting and having diarrhea. Lets just say we did a lot of laundry on this trip. And I am mortified that my kids are sick at her house. My 2 yr old got so dehydrated we actually had an ER visit. Fast forward to the day of the funeral and we are supposed to have a room reserved for us and our nephew. Only a couple of other relatives show up and we are off looking for a new hotel room. Then the other family memebers succumb to the family illness. Funeral, thank god, went without any problems.

Next morning we are back at my SIL's house and my DH wakes me up saying he is in horrible pain and has to go to the ER. (Yep the flight would have cost us less being that we had two ER visits in one week) And guess what? He has a kidney stone!!

So we can't leave Wednesday like planned because he is in so much pain. Thankfully he gave birth to a beautiful little stone (at this point I am thinking it looks just like him) and we are on our way on Friday early am, or at least so I think, untill I wake up the baby to find he is laying in a puddle of poo and we are doing last minute laundry, again.

I talk my hubby into stopping mid way through our trip and we stay overnight in KS. Then on to home.

Synopsis. The trip sucked, I am glad I am home and I am feeling well. Now to do more laundry. Disappointed I did not loose a bunch of weight but I survived without incident.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Lol. Been there, done that. I don't think it was the kids who were the problem (other than being ill) but rather hubby. Mine's the same way. Drive til you get there at top speed. He should have been a fighter pilot.

Glad you are home and safe!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
