I am looking for a book or two to help me prior to and after getting the Lap Band. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Specifically geared to banding, or one that can help in other ways (with your relationship to food, etc)?

I just read Fighting Weight by Khaliah Ali. She is Muhammad Ali's daughter. She had the band done and this is her history from childhood to band to normal weight. It is really good and very supportive.

I would strongly recommend it for clear data, great support and making you feel like you are not alone.

I enjoyed:

Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies

Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery

Before & After

*The first two I found by doing an online search at my local library.

I read Khalilah Ali's book , really good. Now that I'm typing this I may read it again.

Her story resonated with me.

I've also read Weight loss surgery for dummies. Very helpful.

I'm reading Dr. Robert Sewell's book about weight loss surgery. I forget the name.

If you check on Amazon there are a lot of books about weight loss surgery there.

I may check to see if there's anything new, since my approval process is taking so long.

Weight-Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band by Dr. Seawell was an awesome book. Weight loss for dummies I found to talk too much about what you already learn by doing basic research online. And it discusses many different WLS's whereas Dr Seawell's is specific to banding

Ultimate LAP-BAND Success by Dr. Duc C. Vuong is excellent when you want something to skim through as a refresher. I look through it when I'm feeling off track to remind me of what I should and shouldn't be doing.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
