Overfilled my Pouch - owie owie owie

I'm seven weeks out and finally made my first mistake - and boy did it hurt!

After dinner I was quite full but went to the cupboard and started mindlessly pounding down cashew nuts - just like my good old pre-band self. I learned quickly, "Hey this band really works." I was in excrutiating pain for hours. Felt like someone blew up my pouch with a bicycle tire pump. I had tremendous pain in my chest with a ton of gas.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Lesson - you can't run, you can't hide, cuz you have a lap band inside! :biggrin:

Yep---only with regular meal-time food. My capacity is about 4 ounces, if the food is solid. Any more, and my body says, "Nope!" and tosses it right back up.

If you had prolonged pain, I wonder if you had something stuck, and it took that long for it to work its way through the stoma....

Yes, I was wondering if I was stuck. What does it feel like to be stuck vs. just being too full? I didn't experience any sliming or Pbing. I'm still trying to figure out what my banded body is trying to tell me. Any info would be appreciated.

This morning I ate about 2/3 of a scrambled egg and a few bites of ham. I think my stomach is still sensitive from yesterday's experience. Might be a good idea to stick with liquids today. What do you think?

Not all of us have the same "feeling" from being overfull or stuck. I am almost 2 yrs out and have only had a couple of "stuck" or "sliming" incidences. Usually come from eating too fast, being nervous when I ate or eating too fast. From your explation of how you felt, I would say the same as Betsy...most likely some of the food you already had in the pouch were not going through and then you added the peanuts on top of it making you feel like you were blown up.

It's important to watch that overfilling thing. #1 reason I say that is that you do not want to be so full that your food sits in your esophagus.

If you are feeling a little irritated today, you are wise to baby your pouch today and do soft or liquids.

The first few months can be quite difficult in figuring out when you get to that full feeling. Try to avoid eating more once you have had your meal. I found that it really helped to weigh and measure in the beginning and also to push myself away from the table when done or got the feeling I was one bite away from pushing the limits. I would get myself out of the diningroom and kitchen and find an activity to take my mind off of eating if I still felt hungry.

I truly believe it is true what is said about it taking 20 minutes for your head to realize that your stomach is satisfied.

Hi, there...boy, I hear you with the cashews...it's all too easy to mindlessly eat those. My only salvation, if I want 3 or 4 for the taste, is to chew them to the point where they are almost nut butter :-)

I have to agree with an earlier poster...sounds like you weren't empty to start with, so you just laid those nuts on top and overfilled your capacity. I have not yet had an experience like you've described, but I have certainly eaten to where I knew I'd better stop RIGHT NOW.

Then, I put down the fork and pick up my knitting :confused: Maybe, if I keep doing that, I might actually finish a project once in awhile.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
