OMG ill die if they put a catheter in me!

The nurse told me they probably would put in a catheter, but my surgeon would skip it if I peed right before I went in to surgery. I took my butt down to the restroom so fast and peed, and they didn't put a catheter in.

I remember waking up about 6 hours later feeling the urge to pee, so the nurse helped me walk over to the restroom (I stayed one night). I'm sure it can be avoided, but I would ask your surgeon.

Well the surgery was horrid. They didn't tell me I had to pee before, and since I couldn't eat or drink anything they have to put a tube in my pee hole, how degrading and embarrassing! Not to mention I have baby veins, so it took forever to get the IV in me. When I woke up I was in so much pain that I was gasping for air and screaming. I guess my pain tolerance is less than I thought.

Finally they let me go and the car ride home was painful, I couldn't even sleep when I got home because of the chest pain due to gas, which I'm still having even after gas x and walking all day!

My incisions are painful, and I have been taking the pain meds every 4 hours since I was discharged.

I haven't even wanted to drink anything because of the chest pressure, I'm starting to wonder if I'm ever going to feel normal again.

On the upside, I have lost 15 pounds, lol. I thought for sure since I'm so young and I have no health problems other than being obese that the surgery would be a breeze, but I guess that was just wishful thinking. I will be SO happy when I start getting this gas to leave my body!

Dear Alliebear,

I'm sorry you had an experience like that. Hang in there; you WILL feel better. I had the gas pains too, and they got a little better each day. Even though the doctor said a heating pad probably wouldn't help it, I put one on my left shoulder whenever I could. It may be in my head, but I think it helped me. About a week and a half later, I didn't feel the gas pains anymore.

I am 3 weeks post op as of tomorrow, and I am still tender (not painful) near the incision where my port is, but all the rest are fine. it will get better.

Thanks you for your post Erika! I finally had some relief after a mile long walk, lol. I'm sore, but hopefully I can sleep through the night tonight because of it. I will try the heating pad and keep my hopes high

:) Yeah I'm feeling a little better today, took a shower and walked around, I think most of the gas is gone now, so I might be able to sleep through the night tonight. I even managed to eat some Tomato Soup earlier and it made my stomach stop growling, even though I didn't feel hungry or want to eat. I do feel better, and realize I will only keep feeling better, thanks for the encouragement!

I went to an off-site hospital called journeylite. My doctor is Ahmad, he is off fallbrook on the northwest side, if you'd like his number or anymore info, please send me a private message. Nice to meet you by the way, lol :)

Hi everyone. I'm glad I found this group. I am just starting. Today I worked on my paperwork. I went to a meeting yesterday to get the paperwork and the list of things that have to be done before the banding. I started this about a year ago but chickened out. Here I am a year later and 20 more pounds. The next step after turning in the questioner is the physical. I will make that appointment tomorrow. I'm glad you are all here. At least I am not alone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
