I'm 4 days post op and I seem to be hiccuping a lot, which is something I never did before. I also started on full liquids yesterday and every time I have something I get sort of a uncomfortable feeling in the top of my mid abdomen. No reflux, everything is staying down. Is this normal?

I'm 4 weeks post-op and I've had hiccups, burps and that uncomfortable feeling but more in the center of my chest, not mid abdomen, which I've learned means I'm full.

I've never hiccuped so much or burped or had my stomach make such funny sounds before. I read a thread on here about the sounds in our stomachs. It was pretty funny.

Sounds like your right on track.

I have been banded almost a year and I regularly get the hiccups now after eating - not sure why it continues, but during the operation they fill you with gas to have a bit more room to move in there and it pushes against your diaphragm - it is probably all still settling down and returning to normal. Unless it is causing you pain I wouldnt be too worried.

Yep, the hiccuping postop is really common. The surgery can irritate the phrenic nerve, which triggers hiccups.

They tend to taper off with time--though I've found that a single hiccup is now my cue to stop eating RIGHT NOW. I usually stop pre-hiccup (other stop-eating signals reach me first), but if I don't "hear" those signals and reach the hiccup stage, I know that one more bite will push me over the limit.

I hiccup all the time. Almost every time I eat!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
