1st Fill -- pain question

Recommended Posts

Hi, I just had my first fill yesterday (Thursday 11-10-05) and my doc has me do liquids for 2 days, mushies for 2 etc. I am having no issues at all swallowing, Soup, cocoa, Water is going down without any issues.

However I HURT, my insides hurt, similiar to how they hurt 7-10 days after my surgery. My husband thinks I've pissed my tummy off by having the fill, and my doctor confirmed that I might have "pain for a few days" after the 1st fill.

Has any one else had this? I feel like I'm having a gaint tummy cramp that just won't go away. Any ideas? any hints? I took my really good pain meds from post-surgery last night and might do it again tonight - but obviously this isn't something I wish to continue to do.

I have a #11 band and my first fill was 4.4cc's

ps. I LOVE MY BAND and am SO THANKFUL I DID this, I just want some guidance if someone else has found a way to deal with this issue. :-)

Thanks ~ Erica

i had my first fill today and they gave me 1.5cc. I have not had any problems thus far. I have lost 27 pounds in 10 weeks and I hoping the fill will get me going.

Erica,

My 2nd (and last) fill was a year ago. And I remember a little pain in the tummy area for a couple of days afterwards - like I had done sit-ups the night before. Hope you get better soon! :)

I had my first fill today at 11:00 am, it didn't hurt at all, I then went to the gym and did my usual 30 minutes of cardio followed by 30 minutes of weight lifting which included sets on the abdominal crunch machine. Nothing hurts, I feel great, just really hungry. When does the restriction start I could eat anything right now. I hope your situation gets better.

I have a question for GLO, do you feel any discomfort in the gym with the abdominal crunches? I was just wondering because I am so paranoid with slipping my band, I won't even lay on my side or stomach because I feel I might hurt my band. I had my band put in on the 21st of October and I will be getting a fill next week

Edazul, no I don't have any pain or discomfort when I do crunches but, I am very careful and I go very slow with the assistance of a personal trainer. You may be to soon out of surgery to start with crunches. I asked my doctor for permission and I had surgery on Sept 26. Ask your doctor before you do anything, like you I was (am) constantly worried about band slippage, right now I am fighting a cold and have a barking deep cough, I just try to be careful all the time, Good luck and God Bless

Sorry, everyone, I should have replyed sooner. I was in crampy tummy pain for about 3 days. I think it was a combination of my time of the month, the Barium (I had to drink A LOT YUCKY) and the first fill. I'm hoping the next one isn't like the first!! I love my band too much!

I had bad pain after first fill, I think from how I felt that a pill may have stuck. The other theory was that I was still bruised from the surgery procedure because sometimes the area below the sternum gets bruided. Itwas bad for surgeon and I did see a gastroenteroloigist because I had post surg acid pain issues too right after the surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
