Is there a problem with my band??

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

This is the first time posting here. I got banded in Feb 2009. I only lost about 20-25 pounds. I started seeing a different doctor sue to my surgeon having a sick son and limited schedule. ( The two surgeons are friends so I was transfered, no hard feelings between them) Any way, I got a fill today. I am supposed to be at about 7cc's now in my 9cc band. I was told to stay on Clear Liquids today and most of tomorrow. Well, the kids were eating pizza and it just looked soooo good so I thought it will not hurt to take a small bite, so I did. Well I ate two pieces of pizza and I felt like I could eat more but I didn't. I do not understand what is going on. Anyone that can help me out, I would appreciate all that you have to offer!!!!

Thank You all!!!!!!

Doreen

Doreen, I am not sure if this would be helpful or not, but you might ask your doctor to withdraw all the Fluid from your band to make sure all 7 cc's are in there. My surgeon does this each time I get a fill, just to double check, before putting in more.

I am not sure how it happens, but he told me that the band can lose some Fluid over a period of time. Once I hit my "sweet spot" he said that I will have to come in 1 or 2 times a year to get the level of fluid checked and more added, if I need it.

I have also read, on this forum, about people going in for a fill, and something happens (like missing the port) and the fluid not actually getting into the band.

Anyway, it wouldn't hurt to see your doctor and ask his opinion.

Keep us posted.

Doreen,

I agree with Diana. You should definately talk to your doctor about this. I think I would actually call his/her nurse if the appointment is not in a couple of weeks. There is some type of problem that needs to be addressed whether it is your eating habits, fill level etc. Hang in there and stay encouraged.

Thanks. I do know for a fact I had 2 fills that the port was missed. That was done by a doctor that works with him and I do not care for him, but any way.....the Fluid was pulled out and it was not as much as it was supposed to be. My new doctor told me that with the realize bands, they are flexible and usually all the liquid does not come out because it collasp and some is stuck in the folds. My new doctor does his fills using an ultra sound so I know he will not miss. I will have to call his office and ask what I should do. Thank You so much.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
