Was anyone else told they were Vitamin D dificient when they got their blood work results back? I just received mine and I know a few other people who received the same results? Did this cause anyone any problems when it came down to being approved for surgery?

I've known a few people to be told this. Vitamin D deficiency usually responds very well to supplementation.

Certainly, you want to address the problem. Your doctor will tell you how best to do it.

But I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I got the same results with my blood work along with Calcium. I just take a Viactiv chocolate chew every day. When I went for my 1st consult, the nurse running the seminar said that most people have these Vitamin ( Calcium and D )problems after banding. I look at it as I was ahead of the game and started treatment 6 months in advance.

I was Vitamin D deficient and so was my coworker (we had our surgeries 1 week apart). I live in western NY and it tends to be cloudy here in the fall/winter. Lack of sunshine will contribute to vitamin D deficiency. They gave me a prescription supplement that I took once a week for 12 weeks. Didn't delay my surgery at all. At my postop visit I asked him if I should get a new prescription for vitamin D and he said, "No, just get some Viactiv." No worries for you!

I was told yesterday that my Vit D was def.....and my parathyroid was out of wack..but they said vit d goes together with it...and gave me vit d 50,000iu once a week and said that we will repeat blood work every few months and watch it. They said it was no big deal..but just made me a lil nervous...The other thing...I was told..that this is fairly common..and the test for it wasn't always around. In addition they are finding that it is the cause of a lot of problems that could have been avoided..such as cancer..and osteoprosis... Good LuCk

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
