Hello,

My name is Schel and I am from Big Lake MN.

I am not yet banded and am scheduled for Nov 22nd 2005.

1- Does anyone know how much Protein a body can handle at once?

I mean is there a limit on how much your body can absorb at once?

For this I mean Protein Shakes.< /span>

2- Can I still have caffeine after surgery? And if No, why not?

Will I ever be able to have caffeine again? (my vice... coffee)

3- Anyone met their goal yet?

And if so, what next? I mean do they still do fills with your band?

Do they not fill it and see how you do?

4- Is anyone able to go out and have a few cocktails after goal has

been reached or just an occasional glass of wine, like holidays?

Schel

Hi Schel, I'm not at goal, but I have the occasional cocktail, and I still have my beloved coffee and teas. In fact, we are told that lattes are a good way to get in our dairy. Seattle and all... :)

My screwdriver hit the spot this afternoon, now I'll need that cup of java to wake me in the morning.

Not a goal yet, but I'm slowly working on it. As for the Protein, I think too much of anything is not good. I believe people who were on the Atkins diet had problems with either kidney stones or gall stones, one of those, due to too much proten.

Good Luck!

Hi Schel! I try to get 60 grams of Protein a day, and stay around 1500 calories. Right at first, the first week after banding, i had to work at getting more than 500. That slowly changes, you heal, and then you can eat more and different foods. Then you realize you need a fill. I drink coffee every day. NO sodas. They just don't like me anymore. I'm a beginner, so pretty far off from goal...so can't help you there. Also, I no longer drink, so you'll have to taket he advice of Pat on that one!

Glad you are here, and read all the past posts you can...I learned so much here, and still do, every day!

Cindy

I read somewhere in my travels that the body can only absorb about 30 grams at a sitting - so paying extra for those mondo Protein shakes isn't worth the effort - probably not even for those body-builder types... I have seen people note any amount daily from 50-80 grams - so go with whatever your doc tells you for a daily total.

:]

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
