iseethinme 0 Posted April 8, 2010 Hi Everyone- I got sick on Easter. I was so sick that my band got swollen from all the Vomiting. I had a complete Unfill Yesterday and I am still Vomiting. Doctor says if I am completely unfilled and still vomiting to go to my Primary Care Doctor cause it may be a bad stomach virus! Has this happened to anyone. I am so scared it is still the band. Kind of got heartburn and hiccups too which makes me think that the Band is still really swollen and only time will help. I am only on liquids and they won't even stay down. Any suggestions out there. I can't take much more of this. Thanks!
LeighaMason 19 Posted April 8, 2010 Your Dr can give you anti nausea medicine, that will give your stomach a chance to rest and heal, it is probably just swollen. What ever it is you need to see your doctor asap if you cant keep down liquids.
BetsyB 9 Posted April 8, 2010 Vomiting can sort of set up a cycle that can be tricky to interrupt. I would ask your doctor (either your surgeon or PCP) for a prescription antiemetic. Nipping the vomiting in the bud will allow your stoma to heal, so that the cycle stops.
getfit48 0 Posted April 9, 2010 I had the band 4 weeks ago. The first 2 weeks were smooth sailing - I thought it was great- I could eat small portions of most anything- and I didn't even know what it was like for anything to come back up:frown:! Then 10 days ago, I think a green bean started it all - I couldn't even keep down liquids for 2 days - now I am still on liquids and night time is miserable - I have to sleep sitting up and still am coughing and retching every night. Doc says it is soft tissue trauma- swelling and it will get better - I am wondering if this was such a great idea - anybody else experience this?
getfit48 0 Posted April 9, 2010 Well, it would be more accurate I suppose, to say it is more like constant regurgitation/burping - I feel like a baby - eat, burp- I am afraid to go out in public-as I was this past weekend- because I was regurgitating on myself all the time- maybe if I had a baby blanket and burp rag I could pretend it wasn't me. But it is getting old! And I NEVER had this problem before

He was taking the anti nausea meds my doctor gave me when I was first banded and he was still throwing up. I know of a natural rememdy that works for my mother. If you have any cloves (the fresher the better), you can bite down on one of those to release the oil. They numb the gullet and stomach...great for nausea. Peppermint is also anti-spasmotic... helps to stop the waves to nausea. Good luck :smile2: Edited April 9, 2010 by voodoo
bjackson 0 Posted April 9, 2010 I had the same problem and took ibuprofen to help the swelling. It seemed to work. Also warm liquids.
emjay 8 Posted April 9, 2010 I was going to recommend ibuprofen also. Children's chewables or the liquid form. Then try to sip Water - as much as possible to wash it thru the stomach.
vlp1968 83 Posted April 11, 2010 Wow- if your not even able to keep down liquids I would see a doctor right away. Do you have other symptoms such as a fever that makes the surgeon think it's a stomach bug. I hope your band didn't slip. My doc says if you suddenly can't keep anything down thats a sign of a slip, escpecially if you haven't had a recent fill.
iseethinme 0 Posted April 12, 2010 Just wanted to let everyone know that my Band slipped! I had emergency surgery on friday to reposition the Band. Just looking forward to get better! Going back to liquids and remembering the whole process. Take Vomiting seriously. I did not have any pain so I thought I was fine.
