Hi!!

I am SOOO happy to have come across this forum! Its hard being overweight and its even harder when you dont "fit in". On top of everything else, I unfortunatley have PCOS (polysistic ovarion syndrome). I have tried everything in the book to try and loose the weight and I am at the end of my rope. I finally started thinking about weight loss surgery after we had three failed attempts at fertility treatments. We found out the day before thanksgiving that our third round had failed and that was it for me. Its hard, with all the hormones, needles, ultrasounds, and all that other stuff. So anyways, I originally wanted to do the RNY and thats what I have been kind of set on until a bunch of people started scaring my husband and he begged me to look into other options. So as I did my research and thought about it more, I decided to go with the less risky and do the lapband. I know it will be better in the end as well, because the weight will come off slower (hopefully not to slow) and if I ever get pregnant the baby will get proper nutirents. Due to my inssurance I have to be on a supervised diet for 6 months and I am now in my third month and just sent in my paperwork to the surgeons office. I am really scared and have nightmares that for some reason I will be rejected by the surgeon and/or the inssurance company but I guess we will just wait and see!!

Thank you for taking the time to read my intro, I look forward in forming a new support group and hopefully gaining new friends!!

Hi stephanie! Just ran across your intro & wanted to bump you up! I hate seeing that no one has commented on a post! There's so muchto read on here though. =) so welcome to the forum & congrats on the decision to take this journey with us. I'm so sorr to hear that you've had trouble with your fertility treatments. I have a co-worker that also tried for a few years & had no luck until about 3yrs ago & now she has twin boys! =) I pray everything works out for you! The band truly is a great first option with it being less invasive & more suitable for someone gearing up for baby! =) remember persistance is key when it comes to the insurance companies! And appeals DO work for many people. So welcome to the forum you definitely will 'fit in' here with no problem! Good luck on your approval & diet! Many blessings to you & your future family.

~Shay

Hi Stephanie, I'm Trinity and I'm getting all my tests done now before they submit everything to the insurance company. I could be getting the surgery as early as next month!

Congrats on making the decision to better your life. I know all about infertility as it took me almost a year to get pg with my second child and three failed fertility treatments too (Clomid). I think you're wise to get the surgery first and then try to work on getting pregnant. I was heavy during both pregnancies and with the weight comes complications. Not in every case, but I'm two for two on mine.

Anyway, welcome and good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
