Woodstock girl 0 Posted April 7, 2010 Got my band at the end of December and have lost 30 lbs. WooHoo! I had a fill three hours ago and feeling pretty restricted. I have had a little Protein shake and that's it. I am having constant belching and hiccups. What is causing this?
catalyst4thecreator 0 Posted April 7, 2010 I had Lap-Band Surgery on 3/11/10...today I had my first fill. My doctor put 3cc's in the band, & I have the same feeling. At first I felt fine, I drank an entire 12 oz Water, but now an hour later I am feeling alot of pressure, belching & am uncomfortable.*??? Wondering if this will pass, or is this how a "Restriction" feels? I can drink, but not fast.* Help someone gives feedback to us..........sooner than later! p.s. My doctor told me to come back in 1 month for another fill, if I need it.
OnTheWay to Thin 0 Posted April 7, 2010 Normally you swell a bit from a fill, so the restriction is exaggerated initially, it does get better in a few days. As long as you can keep liquids down you are probably ok, but if you cant call your doctor right away. I have had this experience with each fill as I got closer to the correct fill level. And it is very common to have more burping and so on.
Woodstock girl 0 Posted April 7, 2010 I have had several fills and have not felt a restriction in a long time, so I am hoping this will help me with my weight loss. If I understand you correctly, the belching and hiccups will subside as the swelling goes down, right?
LeighaMason 19 Posted April 8, 2010 The tighter I am the more belching, gurgling, hiccuping, I do. Right now I am very tight and I gurgle everything I drink. Someone on this board compared it to one of those Water dispensers that are in the offices with the big water bottle on top. You know how they kind of gurgle? I think its a sign of restriction. Woodstock girl 0 Posted April 8, 2010 I am having a hard time holding liquids down tonight. It has only been 5 hours since my fill, and I am having a bit of vomiting. The vomiting actually makes me feel better. I'm thinking I'm a little too tight, but maybe it will get better in a couple of days as the swelling goes down. What do ya'll think? Cocoabean 430 Posted April 8, 2010 (edited) Woodstock, If you can't get Water down, go back to your doc, quickly. That can be dangerous due to dehydration. Vomiting will add to swelling and can become a vicious circle. Don't mess around with it. Sip, don't slug. If you can get Water down, then it's OK to wait a bit. I burp and gurgle more when I am tighter. I, too, liken things to the water cooler. When you put a new 5 gallon bottle on it urps and bubbles like crazy. If you just trickle it out, it doesn't bubble so much. Thus sipping is better. I also think of it as a funnel. Try to pour a bunch of liquid down it and it fills up. Pour it slowly and it will drain more easily. Take it easy and keep us posted!! Edited April 8, 2010 by Cocoabean spell check is a wonderful thing
btcabell 0 Posted April 8, 2010 i did the same thing after my fills. it took a good week for me to eat without burping and vomiting. my doctor told me 5-7 days were normal due to the swelling after the fills. he told me to go back on liquids after each fill. just drink plenty of Water and i drank my Protein Shakes slowly... Woodstock girl 0 Posted April 8, 2010 So far Water is not staying down. So I guess I will call them in the morning.
Woodstock girl 0 Posted April 8, 2010 I feel a little better this morning. Still very restricted, but not having hiccups or vomiting. I guess some of the swelling went down overnight. Water is staying down now, so will try a little Protein Shake. If it stays down, I will not have any fill removed and try to love my new restriction. I lost 3 lbs yesterday. Hard way to do it though! catalyst4thecreator 0 Posted April 8, 2010 I got my 1st fill yesterday, I was VERY uncomfortable...I had a lot of gas trapped; this morning I am feeling better, but still gassy & tight.*I am sippin' on some coffee & then I am going to drink a Protein shake. I am on liquids for 3 days, mooshies for 3 days, and then back to regular food.* Hopefully I will see my weight move, I have been at 290 since 1 week post surgery. Am I out of Banster Hell? Woodstock girl 0 Posted April 8, 2010 Why do you have to wait so many days to go back on regular food? My doc just tells me to drink liquids for 24 hours after a fill, then back to regular. However, I have a feeling that this fill will change my regular, which is good. I've been eating too much because I didn't feel a restriction.
catalyst4thecreator 0 Posted April 8, 2010 My doctor is very strict...& recommends 3 days of liquids;3 days of soft foods;& then back to regular food...so I am just going to stick with that schedule~& see if I can lose some of this weight!
Woodstock girl 0 Posted April 8, 2010 That should definitely help. You will be starving by the time you get to regular food again! lol
LapBandBobbi 8 Posted April 8, 2010 My doc recommends Clear Liquids for 24 hrs after a fill, then protien shakes for 2 days. Then start on mushies before moving on to regular foods.
