Still confused THIS IS WHAT I ATE TODAY!

Recommended Posts

Hi, well I am still a bit confused, scale stable with 50/lb loss in 9 months. My Family Dr. is pleased now off all BP Meds etc. went to my Surgen and found out I was overfilled for the last 6 months so they took a bit out and I feel better. Working out 3 to 5 times a week with trainer and nutrionist. the Nutrionist keeps increasing my cals and says not to worry about the scale. Actually the Surgen said not to worry about the scale too! But I am so into the scale. well this is what I ate today. It still seems like a lot more than others, I have been overweight and YO YO Dieted my whole life.

Breakfast: Protien shake, with Skim milk, banana

snack. 5 appricots, with almonds and cheese. also coffee

lunch. 6 Onz chicken cutlets.

Snack: Protien powder, Milk, 2tbs peanutbutter

dinner : 5 onz bison, 2 laughing cow cheese, Mixed Veg.

Total 1500 cal, 138g protien, 55 fat, 129 Carbs.

I am also suppose to start using the food extchanges. The plan from my Nutrionist is actually 1900 cal.

Breakfast 2 Protien, 1Milk. 2 fruit

Snack: 1 Fruit, 1 Milk, 1 Fat,

Lunch: 5 Protien, 2 fat, 2 starch

snack: 2 protien, 1 milk, 2 fat

Dinner: 5 Protien, 1 Milk, 3veg, 3fat,

Total: 13 Protien, 4 Milk, 3 fruit, 6 fat, 2 starch,

Any thoughts? Really want the scale to start moving again. I started at 300, than 270, than 260 in Oct, down to 250 in Dec. still about 250.

Seems like a lot of calories to me ... I eat about 1000 calories per day and have to struggle to eat that. Maybe your band not tight enough ?

Well, I do tend to have a more Aussie viewpoint on diet so no doubt many will disagree and find my suggestions too carby.

But I think your diet is all heavy, protein/animal foods and way way too light on veg, you have some fruit in there though. I'd make the mid morning snack just a piece of fresh fruit and maybe some nuts, I'd cut out the cheese there and at dinner and have more vegies instead. I'd also have a good quality grain Cereal (like unprocessed oatmeal or good granola) for Breakfast instead a Protein shake. Such changes would bring your fibre up and protein/saturated fat down for similar calories. I just dont think anyone needs 138g of Protein in a day!

Calorie wise, I did fine on 1500 to lose all my weight, so I dont think its too much food. We do need to eat and be nourished, not starve. I just think the balance is less than optimal.

But its all personal opinion I guess so that's just my 2c.

thanks, My Nutrionist wants me to increase the carb (With Whole grains, veg ) I am trying to shift my thinking but it is hard. My band dr said his only suggetion was to decrease carbs, my trainer and nutrionist said he was not awair how much I was working out and it was crazy to be that low in Carbs, Think he said 50. I am thinking of cutting back on the protien shakes. which account for about 30 grams a day.

thanks again

Ross

Definitely some people lose better on lower carb diets - personally, it offers me no advantage. As a runner, I fare much better on a diet that includes good carbs. It never affected my weight loss - well, I didnt get that really fast loss, but I only had a BMI of 36 to start with. I lost steadily and more importantly, have kept it off for a couple of years now.

I think the jury is out on whether the high Protein regime leads to increased cholesterol and worse blood chemistry nor not, but much as fans claim that the opposite is true it is definitely NOT proven to improve them either no matter what results individuals have had. I think its important to note that anybody's cardiologist will tell them post heart attack to cut down on animal foods, saturated fat and increase good low GI carbs, fruit and vegies. Not to mention, your bowels will thank you - high animal product diets ARE linked to various cancers whatever their effect on blood chemistry. What works best for weight loss is not necessarily the same as what is best for overall health and it is sensible to balance the two out.

All drs. will have different opinions. There are 6 surgeons at the hospital I had my surgery done. All 6 have different pre-post op diets. Mine is the only dr to require crushing pills. However my dr wants me to have lean protien, veg diet. She said to limit carbs. I was watching Dr. Oz on tv, he had 2 groups of overweight people. They did some kind of analysis and divided them, one group would lose better on high protien, the other would do better on higher carbs. I was always under the impression carbs where bad, or not as healthy for you.

Thanks, I too have been so afraid of CARBS. But my nutrionist keeps telling me to eat carbs but in the form of veg, whole grains etc. also Fruit! She keeps asking me to just do what she says for a few weeks as I keep falling back into my no carb lifestyle. And too few calories. She is determined if I listen that we can fix my motablism. I have notice that I am now eating 1800 calories a day and maintaining my weight. A month or so 1500 was keeping my weight steady. My weight has been virtually the same for the last few months. I also have stoped my blood pressure med which included a Water pill so I think my body has been adjusting to this also. But I do find when I eat fruit and veg and whole grains like Kashi Cereal, I feel better. Hunger is not really and Issue. Actually today I was doing alot of yard work and really did not feel like eating. I made a few protien shakes with milk and peanutbutter than made dinner, veg, shrimp. So I am hoping things will work out.

thanks for your comments.

Wow, really different than my dr and nutritionist. First, not calorie counting, Protein counting. Second, my dr has a huge deal with nuts and cheese. Says they have little protein but high calorie and fat per ounce. And I'm only allowed Protein Shakes on fill days. But hey, go with what works. If you're losing and you're getting all the Vitamins and minerals you need, I say do what the dr says.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
