Hey everybody! I've been working toward getting Lap-band® approved by insurance since January, AND ITS FINALLY DONE!! I meet with the doctor next week, and its typically 2-3 weeks before surgery! I probably won't schedule until mid-May because I have family coming to visit and I want to be sure I feel well during their trip.

I've done a lot of research, but this forum has a lot of "real world" information, so I plan on spending some time reading in the next several weeks.

I have two basic questions at this point:

1. Any recommendations for Protein shakes (taste good/less calories) for the first couple of weeks?

2. How about Vitamins and supplements? At the introductory seminar, we were told to take liquid supplements or crush pills. Any preference? And if liquids are the way to go any "chain" recommendations?

This is a great site. I look forward to "meeting" a lot of you in the next few months (and years) of major transformation.

Hi! Congrats on the approval! I just got mine about 2 weeks ago and had my pre-op appt today and should be going in for surgery in the next two weeks, still waiting on a set date. The nutrionist told me I may have to do a two week liquid diet, but the surgeon said I didn't have to do it because I have a low enough BMI, but I'm going to do it anyway so I have a head start! I went to the store tonight and bought the Vitamins and shakes. I bought the slim fast shakes but I havent tried one yet, and I got Multi-vitamins with Iron, B Complex, and Vitamin D all in pill form, so I will probably have to crush them after surgery. Good Luck with your surgery!

CONGRATULATIONS on the start of your journey.

Calories aren't that bad. powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury is also a good brand. UNJURY is Medical Quality whey Protein Isolate. Best Tasting Whey Protein powder. Most Trusted Whey Protein powder Supplement. Taste the difference!

2. I do chewable vitamins and have done them since I was banded. I take 1 Centrum Multivitamin a day. And 3 600 MG Calcium with Vitamin D (mine is the Walgreens brand called Creamies). I can not do crushed pills. They taste nasty.

Good luck to you and please feel free to ask more questions.

I thought I responded, but I'm just getting the hang of the forum. Thank you for your recommendations! Keep me posted on dates; we can support each other!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
