I had my band placed 11/23/09 and recently I have CONSTANT head hungry. I am not hungry at all. Its almost like I'm mourning food and I want to eat anything and everything. Is anyone else experiencing this????

Yes! Sometimes I am very sad I can't eat more than I can. I love food and miss that feeling of fullness I used to get. Now, if I eat too much I am in terrible pain so I try to stop before I get full, but it is a constant struggle. I tell myself I am never going to do that again, and then two weeks later I am so excited about my meal, i take a quick bite forgetting to chew well and then can't really eat anything else the rest of the day b/c my stomach is irritated. I think I got too big of a fill last time.

Most times I feel at peace with my band, however, there are times I resent it and have even thought "I am taking It Out!". I do believe there is a mourning period and after the initial excitement wears off we have to deal with it all. I really hate going out to eat and socializing. I say No more than yes these days because I am not strong enough to resist appetizers and bad things that slide down(mozzarella sticks anyone?)

I need to get to a support group meeting, I have never gone as they are far and late. (excuses, excuses). Someone from my church was just banded by my surgeon, so Maybe he and I can go and motivate. I know no one going through this. Perhaps being w/ others in a similar situation (like when WW) will be helpful...

Good Luck!

I soooo understand.

I am like a "food vampire". All day long I am sooooo good, but at night I act like a woman possessed!

You should have seen me last night. I was searching my kitchen for something to snack on. I wasn't hungry anywhere but in my head! I was sleepy but so wanted to eat something before I closed my eyes. It was crazy! I am hoping that eventually I will get a handle on myself, but it's been 10 months and food still has a hold on me. I won't give up though.

Good luck to us all!

Remember the lapband is a lifestyle change. It doesn't automatically change our old ways. food is an addiction and anyone that has already had lapband surgery or is having any type of WLS is a food addict. It takes time to break the habits. There are days that I crave food big time. But I ask myself "What will the fall back be if I were to pig out on this food." Generally I change my mind. But I do want to tell you, do not be afraid to take part in the finer things of life once and awhile. If we deprive ourselves of the good things we will fail. This is NOT a diet. Diets fail. "Everything in Moderation.", is what we learn at my local support group. If you feel that you need to have some cheesecake. HAVE SOME CHEESECAKE but don't eat the entire cake. Your mind will thank you. And don't do it all of the time.

Sometimes when I am sitting around I start thinking about food alot. So I try to find something else to replace that. It helps too if you put a paper on your fridge. Everytime you think you want to indulge write to food down that you crave. Then make a column for pros and a column for cons. And remember this quote, "The only good tasting food is the taste of me skinny again!"

Phranp-- I so hear you about night time. I am like a freaking night feeder lol. I know most of the time it is head hunger, but sometimes it is real hunger. I figure I'll work out or something if I really do need to eat.

Good luck to us is right lol

You know what I miss, my favorite veggies. It is so weird. I love snow peas, peas in the shell, asparagus, and I can't eat any of them. Also, string Beans and broccoli are not on my diet. I know others can eat these things, I can not.

Kll724 have you tried just the tops of asparagus? I can't eat the stalks but can eat the tops.

I did mourn food at first but now I really take note of calories. A snickers bar would take me over an hour to burn off and at this point that just isn't worth it to me.

It's my PMS week this week, and I am dealing with head hunger as well. I feel like I am hungrier this week than the others, and I do notice I have been eating more and grazing more. I'm not at restriction yet, but the TOM has always got me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
