txkrause 0 Posted February 7, 2006 Does anyone have trouble with weight gain after going back on solids? I had a fill on 1/30 and after a week of fluids/soft foods I lost 2 pounds, only to gain them back after going back to solids this past weekend!! Help! I know I'm not eating ANYWHERE near what I did pre-band. My body must just be fighting this whole weight thing. I know my metabolism is so slow . . . I'm frustrated. It feels like I have to be on "nothing foods" to loose.
Jamoorse 0 Posted February 7, 2006 Hey i haven't even had my first fill it's 2/20 and i have been on solids now for about 4 days and i am gaining too; i think we will lose after we slow down on maybe the 2nd or 3rd fill? but be realistic, going from liquids to real foods, of course we would gain; make sure you are eating Protein
sisterfunkhaus 3 Posted February 23, 2006 Wow, all of these glowing praises make me want to go to Dr. Jay.
txkrause 0 Posted February 23, 2006 He is a good Dr., but even more so - his staff is wonderful. I ask about a million questions and they don't seem to mind!
sisterfunkhaus 3 Posted February 23, 2006 I actually just called and have an appointment for Mid March :couch2: They were AWESOME and answered all of my questions. I did read about him in D magazine, so that was a plus too. I went to Dr. Benevides for my first consult (almost went to Dr. J., but a friend was using Dr. B.) I'm not sure that my insurance will pay for it b/c of the 1yr. diet thing. My doctor has noted my diet/exercise/weight every three months and has been diagnosing me with obesity for several years. My BMI is 41 and I have several co-morbidities. I'll be visiting with him three days after my visit with Dr. Chu??? I have also applied for financing just in case. I also have some other sources if I need to private pay. I'm going to get the surgery. I never had any health problems until I got fat. This surgery would literally pay for itself in about 5 years. Jamoorse 0 Posted February 24, 2006 i don't know who your insurance is with, but most are pretty good as 1. your BMI is high enough and you have other things, so i wouldn't worry about it; His staff will answer any question, for the first 2 weeks, I called daily, they are wonderful to work with. Dr. Jay is a great doctor, very kind; There would be no doubt in my mind to just go with him and be done with it. Do not chicken out; it's the great thing to do for anyone with health issues. Go for it girl
txkrause 0 Posted February 24, 2006 My insurance declined my request the first time; Dr. J's office (especially Liz) helped me gather the things I would need to re-send all the info to get them to change their decision and they DID! Your BMI and co-morbidities should work and if you have documentation (which I did not have enough of) you should be okay! Good luck and let us know what happens. HamuChan 0 Posted March 2, 2006 Dr Jay!! My mom works as an RN at the Surgery Center of Richardson and was in the operating room with him on a regular basis. She says that he is EXCELLENT. In fact, out of all the doctors in DFW she chose Dr Jay for her own band and for mine.
sisterfunkhaus 3 Posted March 17, 2006 I went for my appointment. I really felt good about the staff. Dr. Cha is a hoot. She is a seriously good Internist. She is a natural teacher. If she ever goes back into family practice, I would so go to her. She has the BEST bedside manner. His PA Lauren was great too. They have a positive bunch in there I am SO thrilled I changed my mind and went to him. I've had all of my tests for the insurance. But, with BCBS-TRS you have to have 1 year of seriously documented Dr. approved diet. My own doctor said that he will do what he can. He really is behind me getting the surgery, so we will see. If not, I'm having it anyway--by the end of May.
Jamoorse 0 Posted March 17, 2006 txkrause I'm curious on how you are doing with your weight loss; I was the same as you felt like you had to be on liquids and that it was the only way to lose; i was banded 1/16/06 and had my first fill on 3/9/06. I have lost 30 lbs to date but it seems like I lose most of my weight also when on the liquid portion. I was filled a week ago and I am eating cheeseburger, chicken wings, salads, so gaining after you can go on "real" food again is my concern too. What is going on with you
txkrause 0 Posted March 23, 2006 Hi Jamoorse!! I am loosing very slowly with long times between losses. That is okay with me though, because I am not gaining and I am still going down or at least staying the same. I still don't eat near the same, don't eat out as much, and eat more fish and things I should. That is good. I did much better after my 2nd fill. It restricted me a lot more. I have to be careful about what I eat and how fast. I think I will probably need one more - maybe in about another month and hopefully that will be my "sweet-spot". I can't eat cheeseburgers!! How can you? The bread kills me and the meat is hard too. I love salads though!

Jamoorse 0 Posted March 24, 2006 txkrause i called in after 1 1/2 week as after the liquids i found i could eat everything, including the cheeseburger, but i didn't eat the bun; i haven't eaten bread per say; some Cereal, Pasta, candy you name it i could eat it like normal with normal helpings and speed; so i called in and i am going to have a 2nd fill this saturday (like that about dr. jay, can do them on saturday in their beautiful new offices); so hopefully my 2nd fill will do something ; i have the large band and the first cc was 3 cc's; my friend one week ahead of me has small band and she got 1.4 cc and she can eat very little; i'm munching on chex mix right now; no problem; i'm holding my weight, taking Water aerobics which is helping me. Need more restriction
