Hey everyone!

My name is Lacey & I am going to get the Lap Band very soon!! I have been going through this 8 month process, I had to do a 6 month diet for my insurance company and a few things have held me back a bit but I'm happy to say I'm going to Pre op on April 15th!! I'm very nervous about everything...I'm scared of the surgery itself and I'm worried about after the surgery, will I be successful? I have done my research but of course there are those scary stories but I'm definitely going to move forward and get R' done! :smile2:

I can't wait to post updates!!!

Wish Me luck!!!

Hey everyone!

Hi Lacey. I'm Dawn. CONGRATULATIONS on your journey and upcoming surgery. EVERYTHING you are feeling is normal and all of the questions that you ask yourself, are also normal. I can not say whether or not you will be successful. I can say that if you follow the plan that your doctor gives to you, you will be successful. Remember this is a lifestyle change. It's not a get thin quick 'Diet'. This does take alot of work. The band makes it possible to achieve those goals and maintain those goals if you follow the guides that the doctor gives you. Don't be upset if you 'cheat' once and awhile. If we deprive ourselves of the good things in life all of the time, we will fail. That's why this is not a 'diet' it's a lifestyle change. Diets don't work. Our motto at my local support group is 'Everything in moderation.'

You will be fine. It's good to read but also keep in mind that what happens to others, doesn't mean that it's going to be like that for you. Yes there are complications as with any surgery. That doesn't mean that it will happen to you. Just to let you know this is probably the best thing that I ever did for myself. The only regret that I have is not doing it sooner. I feel awesome and my self esteem is SO much better. I haven't really had any complications except being 'stuck' a couple of times. But that was because I fall back into my old ways and I don't chew well enough. Unfortunately just because you get the surgery, doesn't mean that your old habits will automatically go away. We all slip up. But that's how we learn. Everyday with the lapband is a learning experience. Be sure to listen to your body.

I'm excited to hear about your progress. Please keep us posted. Feel free to add me as a friend if you have any questions.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
