I am using Optifast - 5 shakes a day and as much Water as you want. That's it. I've lost a lot of weight, and hopefully my liver has shrinked. I'm not happy about this diet, but I'm no longer hungry anymore and I haven't seen the inside of my fridge in a while, lol. If it worked for you then try it. :)

I did medifast for my pre-op diet and it was a little bit like Hell - seriously. I was allowed 5-6 "packets" a day (only ONE could be a Protein bar) and there were very few things that actually tasted good. Some of the Soups were ok and that's what I stuck with - everything else was horrible.

Those were some miserable 3 weeks and I'm glad that they are FAR behind me!

I'm with MrsCabes. I did Medifast for my pre-op. I had also tried it before that as a true weight loss plan. It was not good. I did lose weight on the pre-op. 8 pounds in 2 weeks.

If allowed to do the real program, you are allowed one "lean and green" meal each day.

The food is very bland, the portions tiny. But it works.

You have a web cam or something? Guess it's those web Cookies your computer is eating, telling them you are coming here!

I'd bet you have to fill out a bunch of surveys or "take advantage" of tons of free offers or something! Then end up on who knows how many mailing lists!

I clicked one of those things once, made it about 85 pages through before I gave up. So, someone got a lot of research out of me without me getting my freebie!

I'd prefer to pay for it, but that is me.

Hi, there!

I chose Medifast out of 4 possible preop options my surgeon offered me. Although he only required 2 weeks, I chose to follow the plan for a month. I found it easy to follow, and compared to some of the plans I had been on in the past, the food choices were not bad tasting...my biggest problem, since I commute 4 hours a day, was how to get in all 5 of the meals, PLUS the Lean and Green. There were days when I was not as successful at that as others. I'm still using what I had left over as part of my eating plans.

For me, it was a far better choice than just doing Atkins shakes or whatever- I was able to kick the eggs, Soups, etc. up a notch with some creativity from my kitchen without negating the effectiveness. I lost about 20 pounds in that month. I know, however, that the reason I was able to tolerate it so well was because it was a means to an end...just a temporary thing.

I did take advantage of the 2 week free thing- worked out great, cost-wise.

Best of luck to you!

Christine

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
