sicilianpride85 0 Posted April 4, 2010 I have a question? I was banded on Thursday April 1st. The doctor wants me to have the protien shake three times a day but I can only manage one. I drank the protien shake at 7 am and was soooooooo uncomfortible for the rest of the day that I just sipped on apple juice. Any suggustions? :bored:
shazzle39 0 Posted April 4, 2010 hi i had my op 1st april also, my intentions were to also have 3 Protein Shakes but have not been able to manage it so i have been having the powered skimmed milk in my semi skimmed milk and been making milky coffees as well as one shake to get daily Protein in. how are you recovering form the surgery over all? i am a little sore and tight especially around the port area. but taking fluids seems to be going well. i am hoping everything settles down well form the op, and things progress well. im taking all the advice givien by my surgeon to rest up etc hoping to make a good recovery. im also on vits and minerals too. hope all is going well for you sharon xx:smile:
sicilianpride85 0 Posted April 4, 2010 Im a little tight around the incisions and they are becoming VERY ichy! I have the flinstone chewables maybe I should take those since they have the protien in them. Overall I'm doing good be laying around my moms house were it is less likely for me to get hurt! ( I have five dogs at home) Im going to have to try to get in all my protien some how some way. I'm dying for an egg though :bored: . Congrats to us for starting this journey! Mardeb 0 Posted April 4, 2010 Hi I had my surgery on March 30 and am feeling pretty good drinking the Protein Shakes. I do however mix them with Skim Plus milk which makes them taste alot better. Try different brands because they all taste different. GNC recommended Isopure which has the highest Protein. Pretty expensive ($50) but it tastes great and all I have to do is remember to take it cause I am not hungry. Good Luck to all.
BetsyB 9 Posted April 4, 2010 It can be hard to get it all in at the beginning. Hydration is far more important than getting the Protein in----your ability to do that will come with time. But if the Protein is a liquid, and you're able to sip on liquids, you can probably sneak some more into yourself that way. If it's a struggle, work up to it. But choosing a liquid other than apple juice--which has enough concentrated sugar that it can actually dehydrate you (by drawing Fluid into the colon and causing loose stools/diarrhea)---would probably be a good idea at this point. michellehoeffel 1 Posted April 4, 2010 I was banded on March 29th. The first couple of days were hard to get the Protein Shakes in because of the swelling. It is getting better. My surgeon did warn me that the first few days were going to be hard to get the Protein and liquids down. Just be patient. And stay hydrated I have really found that the zero vitiam Water works best (and it has no sugar). :smile2:
AllieKat 0 Posted April 4, 2010 I was banded on 3/31, and had the same problem. The doc suggested I take Aleve (2) 2x per day to help with that. It took me almost an hour to get the shakes in each time, but I got them in. The rest of the time, I drank Water or Crystal Light- you have to stay hydrated. It is getting easier to drink and get thicker liquids down, give it a day or two, you will see a difference. Good luck!
sicilianpride85 0 Posted April 5, 2010 I went to the doctor today ( mom though incisions were infected. there not!) anyways the doctor told me to go back to chicken broth that the protien shakes were still to thick for me. Also to drink hot liqiuds instead of cold ones.
tugbball 0 Posted April 5, 2010 I am new to this. But I was banded on March 29th and week 2 we can try eggs and grits. I ate these last night and have a sharp pain in my stomach area about where my band is on my stomach. Called the Dr. and they said probably had food stuck. Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix. They told me 2oz of coke, lemon juice and meat tenderizer. This hasnt really helped. Please email me if you can help. cmonroe@thesheffieldfund.com
QweenNique 44 Posted April 7, 2010 HELLO EVERYONE, I WAS ALSO BANDED ON APRIL FIRST, AND TO BE HONEST I HAVE ONLY HAD ONE Protein SHOT WHICH MY HUSBAND BOUGHT FOR ME FROM Walmart THEY ARE GREAT HAVE 26GRAMS PER SHOT, AND HE ALSO SAYS ON FITNESSFIRSTUSA.COM(IF YOU DONT MIND THE WAIT, THEY HAVE REALLY CHEAP PROTEIN) THEY HAVE THE SAME SHOT THAT HAS 42GRAMS AND THEY ARE VERY INEXPENSIVE. I THINK I AM GOING TO STICK TO THEM, OTHER THAN THAT I HAVE BEEN DRINKING CRYSTAL LIGHT SKIM MILK AND broth. I AM AFRAID TO THROW UP SO I AM AFRAID TO EAT. I HAVE HORRIBLE GAS IN MY CHEST AND WISH IT WOULD JUST COME OUT. I AM STARVING BUT KNOW I WILL GET THROUGH THIS ONCE I GO BACK TO WORK... HOPE EVERYONE IS DOING WELL, AND REMEMBER WALK AT LEAST 20-30MINS A DAY EVEN IF THAT IS IN THE GROCERY STORE.
Debster21 0 Posted April 7, 2010 I was on clear fluids for the first week. Nothing but Water, crystal light, broth and sugar free Jello. I can't even have imagined having a Protein Shake.< /p> Hydration is the key in the early days. The rest will come with time. If your doc has told you to drink 3 Protein Shakes / day then sip them slowly all throughout the day. Good luck...it will get better !!!
