Someone please tell me I'm not the only one experiencing this! Here's the deal...I had lap-band sugery in August of 2009 and lost 100 lbs in 6 months. I had been doing everything by the book until March. For whatever reason I fell off the bandwagon in March. Started eating ice cream and all kinds of sugar filled foods. While I haven't gained any weight, I haven't lost any weight in over a month. The problem is my mom. She seems to have caught on that I'm not making the wisest food choices. But she must think that she's the food police because she always has some kind of negative comment to make regarding what I eat. Take yesterday for example, I told her that I felt huge and her response was "From all the banana-nut bread you've been eating?" This morning she was in my room while I was slipping into my jeans. They had just come out of the dryer and were a little bit tight. Of course she had some critical comment to make. She asked "What size are those?" When I told her they were 12's she said, "I don't know about those".

Seriously, what is her deal!?! :bored:

Has anyone else had an experience with a negative person regarding their eating habits and/or weight? This has been the hardest thing I've ever had to go through in my life. It is NOT easy living with the lap-band, especially when the people you live with are eating your favorite foods in front of you. I love food and I'm finding that I am actually mourning for some of the foods. I have definitely hit a bump in the road. I need all of the support I can get right now. She sure isn't making this easy on me. Not that I ever expected it to be easy...

Try not inviting her comments by not making self-deprecating comments about yourself.

I think that's how moms are. I was eating with mine the other day and went to take 1 more bite and she was like "Haven't you had enough" and I looked at her and said "Mom - this is my body and I know when it's had enough". I had ate less than 1/2 cup of food. She didn't know. She thought she was helping me and I just flat out told her I didn't need her to police my food.< /p>

That's why I hate for people to know. You start getting the commentary.

she sounds like a mom.

That said, maybe if we had all listened better to the mom advice, we wouldn't have needed the surgery in the first place.

I don't know about that. My mom is the one who made me clean my plate all the time. Not that I blame her for me being overweight but she sure didn't help the problem either. I know, I have issues. I'm working on them.

Melmarlem.....way to go on your weight loss, that is just awesome!

Hi Mel,

I am a mom and bandster and I have disagree that she's just being a Mom unless she has never had to battle with her weight?

I am always very sensitive to what I say to my daughter about food because I know it hurts her feelings and vice versa.

Maybe she just does not get it.

My husband does not get it either.

Like someone else said, just don't make any comments. Keep them to yourself.

Moms can be tough. They think they are helping, but in reality it hurts. I know it is hard, but try to remeber she loves you and in her own way she thinks she is helping. I felt the same as you when it came to my mom. We were close but her comments made me so mad, and sometimes I really let her know!! lol. Anyways she has been gone for 3 years now, and I would love to have her bug me just 1 more time.

Congrats on you weightloss. Your doing great!!

SOMETIMES WHEN YOU CHANGE, PEOPLE HAVE TO CHANGE AROUND YOU....THEIR FAULTS ARE ON DISPLAY SINCE YOURE GETTING YOURS TOGETHER....MY MOM IS THE SAME WAY! PEOPLE ALL YOUR LIFE TOLD YOU, YOU NEED TO DO THIS OR THAT, BUT WHEN YOU FINALLY DO, THEY COMPLAIN....MAYBE CAUSE THEY NEVER THOUGHT YOU WOULD SUCCEED LIKE MY MOM, OR BECAUSE THEY AREN'T SUCCEEDING IN THEIR GOALS. THE TRUTH IS, TAKE CARE OF YOU FIRST. WHEN EVERYONE ELSE IS GONE, YOU STILL ARE LEFT WITH YOU. YOU DESERVE THE BEST.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
