Does anyone know which - if any - "Cool Whip" type toppings are good to use? I saw a recipe somewhere for the cottage cheese/orange Jello-O dessert, with crushed pineapple. The sugar-free Jello-O is okay; I could figure out how much cottage cheese and pineapple would be in each serving and incorporate that into my daily requirements of dairy and fruit, but the recipe also calls for a container of Cool Whip. Not sure what to do with that, if there's another recipe somewhere that doesn't require the Cool Whip, or if there's some Cool Whip-py topping I could use in this. I don't see my nutritionist for another month and can ask her then, but meanwhile I figured one of you veteran bandsters could help me! I don't know if the "light" Cool Whip is okay. Again, if I can just find a recipe for the Jello-O, cottage cheese and pineapple without the Cool Whip, that would suit me fine!

Cool whip Light Free has 570 calories in an entire 12 oz container. If your recipe makes 6 servings, that would be 95 calories of Cool Whip Free per serving. Not too bad in my book, if you are combining with sugar free Jello and fruit. Others might disagree, but as an occasional treat, I would surely do this recipe.

Living with the band is not about deprevation, it is about moderation. You should be able to find how to eat the tastes you want, within the structure of quality and quantity of food per day. Get your Protein, eat veggies, but be creative on the fun tastes. Looks like you have!!!

Good Luck and thanks for the idea. Let us know how it turns out... (BTW, post the recipe)

I make that recipe using only part cool whip but I add nonfat dry milk to it also. It helps with the consistency and also is added Protein. You won't notice the difference! My mom has been making this type of recipe for decades as a side dish on holidays and always added nonfat dry milk. Her original recipe called for "dream whip" which is a dry form of cool whip type thing.. she just substituted and it has always been good!

Good luck!

I used to be a pampered chef consultant and found that if I were making a recipe that called for cool whip that required it to set up to maintain it's shape, I would not get results with fat free cool whip. I could use the light and get good results. I don't know that I ever used the sugar free (in fact, didn't realize there was a sugar free).

I prefer the extra creamy cool whip (store brand - cheaper) in my Desserts. And I'll give you a recipe now that everyone raves about and it is diabetic friendly.

2 small containers fat free yoplait yogurt, key lime

1 small package sugar free lime Jello

1 cup boiling Water

1 small container extra creamy cool whip

1 large (9 in. deep dish) graham cracker crust, light or regular

Mix Jello with Water and stir till dissolved. Let cool for a few minutes. Mix into it the yogurt, stir well. Add cool whip, fold in completely. Spoon into crust, refrigerate for at least two hours until set.

I don't have the nutritional info on this but it really is yummy and not guilt-laden. You can use any flavor combination, such as orange cream yogurt and orange jello, strawberry banana yogurt and strawberry jelly, etc. You are only limited by the flavors of jello and yogurt your store carries. lol

If you want to make single servings of this, you can get the lite vanilla wafers, place one in the bottom of a cup cake liner, fill with the mixture, then set. Very easy to eat just one portion, and if you want to skip the cookie in the bottom, even easier.

I found they also make sugar free CW. it is very good, can't even tell the difference. I made my orange fluff for Easter yesterday with Sugar Free pudding, Jello and CW. it also has mandarin oranges and pineapple.< /p>

Everyone liked it and you'd never know it was Sugar Free.

Here is a low-fat, low calorie Cool Whip recipe that I love:

Low Calorie Taffy Apple salad

6 apples, cut into chunks

1 package of sugar-free Butterscotch pudding mix

1 container of Cool Whip Lite

Empty Cool Whip into a bowl and add the pudding mix (in powder form, do not make into pudding). Stir until disolved into Cool Whip. Add apple chunks and stir until coated. Cover and place in refrigerator a few hours or overnight.

Enjoy!!!! :)

Hi,

This a Weight Watchers recipe that my mom got that doesn't use cool whip at all. It tastes good too.

ORANGE Jello salad (WEIGHT WATCHERS RECIPE)

Ingredients:

1 small can crushed pineapple

1 box Orange-flavored Jello

1.5 cups buttermilk

Drain crushed pineapple, saving juice. Heat juice. Add orange Jello. Dissolve. Add crushed pineapple and buttermilk. Pour into bowl and chill until firm.

By the way, you could use any flavor jello that would go well with pineapple. Also, you could put a bit of whipped cream on top as a garnish.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
