Post Op, 2 fills, confused, newbie :)

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I'm a new bandster- was banded on 1/19/10. I had my first fill 6 weeks later which resulted in just minimal restriction, then a second fill last week. I have so many questions and concerns so I hope you don't mind me posting and asking for opinions/support!

1st fill was uneventful. I ate almost normally but didn't feel much restriction. I had several PB episodes when I didnt chew well enough or ate too fast. That was almost comforting for me because I knew that there was something 'going on' in there.

After my second fill, the nurse made me sit and drink Water. I began to gurgle so she took out .5cc and I felt better right away. I have the 14cc band and my first fill was 4 cc- this fill ended up being 1.5cc which leaves me with 5.5cc of saline in. The first few days it felt SO TIGHT and I was concerned it was TOO tight. However, I never had that PB feeling or feel the food get stuck like it did with my first fill.

I think I overdid it the Sunday after my fill #2 (Had that fill on a Wednesday). My stomach was so bloated, and I was in a lot of belly pain. I figured I overate and had to suffer with the gas. I had no PB though. It took a few days for my belly to mush up again and the gas pain finally went away. I think it was gas- it was a pain in the middle of my breastbone- could have been heartburn? I don't know. It felt like my stomach was bruised inside.

Now- I seem to be eating normal again. My restriction feeling is gone. I never get that PB feeling when I eat fast- I ate a whole wrap the other day and was like "wow, only half should have left me stuffed" so now I"m getting nervous. I feel no pain or anything now but do you think I could have a slipped band? Or is thsi relatively normal to feel really tight after a fill then loose again? Maybe I need more? I am so confused.

I just ate some Pasta for lunch and should be full now but I could keep going. My doctor is closed today but I think I"ll call MOnday to see if he could x-ray me. But I dont know if i"m being overly paranoid and obsessive. Any suggestions?

Thanks

It sounds like a good idea to call your doc, it also sounds like you need a little more. I have 2.75cc in a 4cc band and have perfect restriction, but right after a fill, I am very tight and worry some also about being too tight. I am a month past my last fill and still feel it is perfect. Everyone is different, but most here on this forum don't reach really good restriction until their band is half full or in some cases, more than half. Try not to worry. Almost every situation with the band is reversable. I don't think you have slipped, even though it isn't impossible, just not very likely. Best of luck Hugs!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
