The Journey Thus Far

Recommended Posts

Hello Bandsters and Soon to be Bandsters,

I am getting ready for this month with a little apprehension and hope. I am comming upon the last of my pre op visits. I just had to get a B12 shot because that was a little low and I also need to take Calcium and Vit D. Anyhow they only thing left is the psych and nutritionist. I then go see the surgeon to see if he will give me the lab band because I do have a moderate hiatal hernia, no erosion or barrets so hoping that will get him to band me. I read all these posts and get some great encouragement from them so hopfully I will be able to actually be a banded bunny and I too than can give some encouargement. My surgery is scheduled for the 29th of April so fingers crossed...

Just stopping by with updates

Tomorrow I go to see the

Nutritionist

pysch

surgeon and if all goes well pre op

I will have an upper endoscopy on Thursday my Gastro wants to look inside and measure my Hiatal Hernia, as you know the surgeon told me from get go that he will not band me with a hernia, he didn't say if it was a certian size just that he wouldn't band me. I will let my Grasto doctor make that call if says that the hernia is too big and in a bad spot that no surgery for me if says it can be repaired than he will direct me he knows another surgreon. Anyhow fingers crossed that I am at least healthy and with any good fortune I will have surgery on the 29th

I will keep you posted

Kathy

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
