Living on the East coast of Canada and thinking of having this surgery as I am 390 lbs and 6"1.

Heard many good things and some bad things about surgery so my question to you is

Would you have the surgery again?

Or was it a mistake?

Thanks for all comments!

I'd jump on the table right now to have one placed again.

This has been life saving for me. It took some time to break some bad habits and get used to the eating plan. The head hunger was a big one for me to over come.... But that was a life time of eating this way so I knew it wouldn't be an over night change. Now it's like a whole new life... I don't live to eat.... I eat to live..... No more mindless eating everything in sight and killing myself with every bit. Life changing and I'd do it again in one second flat........

Would do it again in a heart beat. Hands down the best thing that I've ever done. Ever! Only regret is that I didn't do it sooner!

Personally, I would do it again, no question. However it is not for everyone and it is most certainly not a 'fix-all'. You will get out of it as much as you put in....so be prepared to work for your success.

Good luck on your decision.

I, too, voted "yes" with both hands in the air.

However, there is a caveat, you definitely have to put work into it. I know some folks have not had to work real hard. But, personally, still get head hunger, even after 6 months of banding, and 6 months of pre-dieting. I have lost and continue to lose. I pray that the weight doesn't come back on when I get bored with dieting. THAT, is why I have the band. It prevents overeating and bad choices. Just last night, I had a hand full of nuts. I guess I didn't chew them well enough, and they got stuck. 'Nuff said, folks with the band know. Good luck with your decision. It is a life changer. Karen

Thanks all for the responses.

I do expect to work at it but hoping it is going to help me keep the weight off and eat less.

I have lost over 120 lbs before...just could not keep it off and ate nutri system for 6 months.

Thanks

Exactly, that is my problem, too. That is what I hope for out of the band. Good luck to both of us.

This type of surgery is a great tool to help in the loss of weight and to retain the weight loss but is not for everyone. The down side to the band is vomiting, slippage, errosion if the instructions by the surgeon are not followed. The upside, it can be reversed not like gastric bypass.

As long as you view the band as a tool and not a quick fix, you will benefit.

Good luck in your decision.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
