Hello Everyone :]

Recommended Posts

My name is Dana, I began my LAP BAND journey a year ago and after my 6 month weight loss program and trouble with my insurance company, I am now coming down to the line. Tomorrow I will find out when the surgery will be scheduled for, hopefully in two weeks, but I am getting very nervous and anxious! My first appointment I was at 267 lbs now I am at 238, and my goal weight is 130-140 lbs. I could really use some support and encouraging words! Not everyone is supportive of my decision and believes I can do it on my own, but I am 22 years old and have already had back surgery once and struggle everyday through back pain due to my weight. I felt like this is my only choice and a great one, just wish people felt the same way.

Hi guys. I'm waiting to hear hear from my insurance, and it doeasn't look too good, so I'm a little nervous. Dana, have you told these people that you wouldn't be doing it alone if you had their support? Goodness! Well, you have support here. Good for you for losing so much already! I feel you, I need to have it done for my back and leg problems among a few. Unforunately, insurance has gotten really strict. They don't do it for just weight now. They look at high blood pressure, apnea, and god know what.

Im 5'7, so it defenitely plays a part since I'm kind of tall. I was approved through my insurance, although it was not easy.

lillbits- Don't get me wrong I have people who support the surgery, but some don't so its nice to find this site where everyone knows what I am going through. You are right about the insurance being strict, they approved the surgery over the phone with my doctors office, then proceeded to send out a letter saying that Cigna no longer covers biratric surgeries, and then they approved it again, so now I am just waiting for tomorrow to hear if the surgery will be this month or next month.

Hey, im sorry to hear that some don't approve of the surgery, but this is about you and not them, and if you feel like this is your only hope than go for it. I also had family and friends who did not want me to have the surgery and I just ignored their comments. However I also had other family and friends who were totally supportive and it made me feel alot better. Good luck!

That's terrific Dana! Good luck! The insurance did that with with some of my meds. Yes, no, yes, no. Lol. You don't know if you're coming or going!

And Everyone, good for you. It's funny sometimes how people don't realize we know what's best for ourselves, isn't it? Now that you feel better, I bet they're happy for you, and that's what will happen to Dana.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
