Went to the seminar!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.. I finally went to the seminar, the first step in the Lap Band process. I also contacted my insurance and was given a pleasant surprize. The surgery is 100% covered! Also, I don't need a referral. The only qualifiers are BMI of 40, clinically Morbidly Obese, and a psych evaluation which is required by my surgeon anyway. I am soo psyched! I totally qualify and don't really have to jump thru hoops. I sure hope not anyway. :banana Now, on wednesday, I have to go to a support group. And in the next week or 2 I will get the date of my first appointment. YAY!

I am very excited about this journey. Although, my significant other is afraid for me. He is afraid something is going to happen to me. I try to explain the procedure to him but he is stubborn. Not sure what is going on there but I feel like he will come around eventually. My mom came with me to the seminar and is very hopefull for me. Of course, she has all the mom worries.

Just wanted to give an update. I havent posted in a long time cuz I was waiting for the seminar.

Hugz,

Donna Marie

Congrats on getting an easy approval!! You're one of the lucky ones. May I suggest sharing some research on the surgery with your significant other? This may help lessen his fears and educate him in the process. Good luck to you!

my seminar is on the 30th my mom is also coming with me. I am excited but very nervous, because it seems to be coming true. does that make sense? I seem to be the one in the family that is scared for me. my mother thinks everything will go fine. good luck on your second step toward getting banded.

Congratulations !!!

Be careful what the insurance company requires. Make sure you have an approval letter from them giving the okay or you could be responsible for payment.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
