I am about 11 weeks out and I eat both all the time. I wasn't told to avoid any vegetable.

Everyone is different with what they can and can't eat. I eat onions all the time. I haven't tried celery but that is because it's not one of my favourite foods anyway.

The stringies in celery can be problematic if you just chomp the stalk. Problem solved if you chop it really small and then use it. No idea why onion is off limits. I've had no problems.

I use onions in everything, love em.

I have to say though, one can live a full and productive life without celery, lol. I loathe it.

I love celery and it is always my food of choice when I just have the 'munchies' because of its satisfying 'crunch'. I haven't had any problems with the strings.

I believe the onions cause gas. Thats what my mother-in-law told me, she is a nurse. The last thing I needed after surgery was more gas!

I've had absolutely no problems with onions. I love them. I love celery too, but it doesn't like the banded me, so I stay away from celery.

I was told that the only thing I should never have again is carbonated beverages.

There was a huge list of foods to be careful with but was told to try them out at home if I want just to see how they react to the band.

The list I was given says asparagras was a no-no as well. It was one of the few veggies I liked pre-op.

you are right about the celery... the strings can be an issue... the onion my nut told me it can cause uncomfortable gas. Heck I have onion and garlic etc in everything I eat no problem... the one thing I totally avoid is soda... never was a fan anyhow. I don't like sweet drinks.< /p>

I was told the same thing about the celery but nothing about the onion. I was told after I get back onto solid food, it might be hard to tolerate raw veggies in the beginning. You just will have to try it and see what happens. I was also told no skins on apples.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
