Feeling after the first fill

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering how people felt after their first initial fill? I had mine done 5 days ago and I still feel hungry and dont have a lot of restriction as I thought I would. Does this get better after a few fills? I thought from the first fill you're restricted right away, as my dad had it done and he was restricted from the very first moment... Any advice would be really appreciated

Had my first fill 5 days ago as well. Dont feel restriction. Am following all the band rules and I am hungry within a few hours and when I eat I feel like I can eat more!!

It is trial and error for each person I guess.

I am going to call for another fill appointment.

I had my first fill on 3/8 and don't have any restriction. I've keep losing and gaining the same 2 lbs. Very frustrating! I go for another fill 4/7. Hope this helps some. My doc will only fill 1cc per month, so it can take awhile to feel the restriction

It often takes a few fills. I felt very little difference after my first--and only for a couple of days. Fill #2 gave me some relief. Fill #3 seems to be getting much closer.

It's frustrating, but it takes a bit of time.

(I wish this were more thoroughly addressed in the preop education our doctors offer!)

I agree with Betsy B--they really do not address the trial and error part in the seminar nor group meetings. However, by me finding this site prior to surgery, I knew what to expect. I just had my first fill last week. I see a little difference in that I do not get hungry as fast, but I can eat anything and still make myself stop eating so do not overeat.

You folks that are just getting 1cc or so per fill, or feel no restriction after being filled... are your Dr.'s doing the fill under fluoroscopy? It seems that the idea of getting the fill is to create restriction, not to goof around until you get to where this tool is doing it's job.

I had about 3.8 ccs for my first fill and couldn't really tell a difference. I was calling the following week begging for another fill. For some (very lucky) bandsters, they are restricted with NO fill (yes, I know someone and HATE her LOL) or one fill just works for them--everyone is different, but the 'norm' around here seems to be that it could take a few before you get to that coveted sweet spot. Hang in there. It does get better. I just had fill #2 in February and I am very close--going to try to schedule another to hopefully last me for awhile :-)

Good luck to you!

ETA --my doc does all fills under fluoroscopy, so he checks restriction levels before he puts anything in, so I'm glad for that. I would be so upset with only being 'allowed' 1 cc per fill!

Restriction for me..

1st fill...not really

2nd fill.... a little

3rd fill... .. a little more

4th fill......YOWZA!

Everyone is very different. My fills are NOT aggresive at all. .5 ccs. However, I am very sensitive to them.

You just have to tweak "your band" to fit "your needs"

It will happen, just make sure to adjust it!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
