Laura1999 0 Posted March 29, 2010 Hi. My name is Laura. I had my surgery march 25. So far things are going well. I am feeling good with not much pain. So far including insurance mandated dieting I have lost 21 pounds. I have about 98 more to go. The worst thing is that I seem to be a little bit hungery all the time. I'm sure it didn't help that yesterday I was at a conference with lots of food but I was content with my shake for lunch. The waitress even offered to puree something for me. I have 2 small children 4 years and 18 months who I still have to prepare food for. My husband is very proud of my will power. He is a recovering alcoholic so He can relate to how Hard it can be. For me this lifestyle change is a step in the right direction for my whole family. I would never want my girls to be heavy and I can see my oldest adopting some of my old eating habits. I look forward to meeting people here and hope my experience remains posituve
gingerjane 5 Posted March 29, 2010 Welcome Laura! I was banded on 3/22, so we're pretty close to the same surgery date. I also have two little ones. My oldest is 9 and my youngest is four and it can be VERY hard sometimes to prep their food and then create something different for yourself. Been there, done that. It's getting better, and I have to remember not to graze off of their plates, either. (I swear that's a MOM thing!) Sounds like you have a supportive hubby and that things are going well! That's great! I have to say, this board has been a lifesaver for me. Everyone seems very sweet and we're all in the same boat! Ginger

HappyMom 1 Posted March 29, 2010 Hi Laura - I too just had my surgery on the 25th. I am still a little sore from the gas pains, but other than that I am doing well. I haven't actually eaten anything since the surgery. I still need to be on Protein shakes until at least day 10. I do get to have some applesauce today..whoohoo! I definitely know what you mean about will power. I have 1 and 4 year old little boys and a husband to cook for every day. It is hard to make Breakfast, lunch and dinner for the guys and not want to eat. I don't have an appetite so I haven't been that tempted, but it is hard to smell the lovely smells and not get to satisfy myself by tasting! I have hoping that it all gets easier. Good luck to you and everyone else!
Laura1999 0 Posted March 29, 2010 thanks to you all for your replies. Sounds like we all have similar experiences. Having a family sure does put a different twist on things. I remember when I was single it was easier to diet. Just get rid of everything in the house that you didn't want to eat. My mom from out of town has been staying with me this week and doing all the cooking so that has been a big help to keep me away from food. Have you noticed that foods seem to have a more wonderful aroma than before? Now with a family it makes it hard. My husband keeps his junk food at work but it is hard to remember not to finish up after the kids. This had to be not only a commitment for myself but for my husband as well. We have pretty much eliminated candy and unhealthy Snacks from our kids diets (sorry no candy from the easter bunny this year). Just can't have that stuff in the house. My Dr has me on a liquid diet for 2 weeks then I can start a pureed diet for 4 weeks. Where are you all from? I am in the Chicago area Laura
ethelinga 0 Posted March 30, 2010 (edited) Hi all, I was banded on the 23rd (actually re-banded, but that is a long story). My doctor put me on Clear liquids for a week and I have had a problem with diarrhea for the past couple of days. I called my doctor's office today and they said to eat some yogurt that the antibiotics might have done in my good bacteria, anyway, ate the yogurt, and everything seems to be back to normal....thank goodness! I am starting on full liquids starting tomorrow for one week, then purred stuff for a couple of weeks. It's funny how doctors do post op stuff differently. Good luck all!
