A bit concerned with lack of appetite

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on March 19th without any problems and have felt really good other than some tenderness at my incisions... however, I have also not felt hungry at all.

I am 10 days post surgery and on full liquids, including cream based Soups. I have been eating at Breakfast lunch and dinner because it was time to eat, not due to any feelings of being hungry.

I realize that for a few days post surgery it's normal to not feel hungry due to swelling in the stomach and esophogus, but after 10 days you would think some of that would return. Yesterday I decided to not eat till I actually felt hungry. At 8pm I gave up on that "test" and had some Tomato Soup.

I am drinking 2 Protein Shakes a day, as well as taking chewable muli-vitamins, I haven't felt full or hungry and am wondering if anyone else has had this type of reaction to surgery?

I keep reading about band hell where people are feeling super hungry and I've had nothing even close to that.

I have lost 26 pounds since the day of surgery and I am getting concerned.

Thanks

Veronica

Sound's like you are doing great. Don't worry hungry will find you. Funny thing. I just had my 5th fill and have good restriction. One thing I notice is that I am never starving. I still do too much habitual eating but I am never starving. I get hungry at times but usually eat because it has been 4 or more hours. Good luck.

It will find you. I felt the same way you did, but when I could eat soft foods, it started back. It is nothing bad though, but I do get hungry now.

I had surgery Jan. 13th and have not gotten really hungry since. It is a very good thing. I don't see it as anything to worry about at all. Sometimes I feel kind of "hollow" but not hungry like before. I still enjoy eating but it's so much easier to forget about it now.

You may be one of those people that get restriction just from the band itsself. It may pass so enjoy it while it lasts. I wouldn't worry as long as your keeping fluids down. Best of luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
