2 pounds on 2 pounds off......frustrated!!

Recommended Posts

So, surgery was Wednesday the 24th and i had lost 22 pounds pre op. Since coming home, I have lost and gained the same 2 pounds these last few days. I just don't get it. Yesterday I was down to my pre op loss of 22 pounds. Today, I am up those 2 pounds. My caloric intake was about 400.....whats the deal....?????:o

You won't really lose weight if you don't eat enough food. You have to have the fine balance of what your body needs and don't under-eat nor over-eat. Plus, keep walking. I lost 47 pounds from April - Oct. after getting my band, now have maintained that for over a year and a half, only ready to get the next 20 pounds off. For me it now is up to exercise mostly. My band is only a tool, I still have to work hard at this just like before. hang in there!

I understand how you feel. I had my first fill on March 8th and have been up and down the same two lbs for 2 weeks. Frustrating.... I go for another fill on 4/7. Hoping I lose at least 2 lbs before the fill.

Meg, you're fresh postop. Your body, right now, is contending with Fluid from IVs, meds, anesthesia, swelling, and all sorts of other things related to the trauma known as surgery.

I know our incisions postop are tiny. They only represent part of what was done to our bodies. Our bodies' responses to being anesthetized, incised, banded, and medicated include retaining a good deal of Fluid. This will resolve over time. Until then, try to stay off the scale if it frustrates you.

The weight loss will come. Depending on your doctor's postop diet, it may well come before you even approach restriction. But the real loss is down the road a little bit.

I know it's really hard to be patient, and I really know the difficulty of staying off the scale. If you can't do that, at least reframe the messages it's sending you.

At this point, there is NO need to be concerned about the (possibly mythical) starvation mode, or not eating enough. You're just a few days from surgery---while I'm all for tracking calories, they have nothing to do with what is going on right now.

It will pass, Meg. Your body will heal, and you will experience the loss you're hoping for.

My advice is to stay off the scale. I weigh myself once a week. That way small flucuations don't drive me crazy. Also 400 calories is probably not enough. I would shoot for at least 650 ish. That's what I do and have lost weight steadily. I was disapointed in my weight loss over the first few weeks, then bam 8 pounds in one week. I think there is saline in the iv they give you at the hospital. Takes a while to loose that Water weight.

As others have said, try to be patient. You are in the healing mode. Best wishes!

I agree 400 calories is not enough, but its tricky at the liquid stage since things are salty and nothing sounds great at this stage that you can eat.

your body is just learning a ton of new things, be patient and you will glide past the weight that you are battling right now.

I'm having the same frustration and I'm a week out from my banding. I think that our bodies are adjusting and that they will eventually line out. I was excited on Friday to see that I was down 2 lbs from my pre-surgical weight only to find this morning that they're back.

I just keep plugging away and figure that my body will eventually catch-up to what is going on. It just takes some time.

Plus, we won't have our first fills for a while, so that's when the REAL restriction starts. Right now is just practice.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
