I was wondering what are some good choices in a Chinesse restarurant. I am terrified of getting stuck.

I am almost 8 months out and have never been stuck! I have great restriction right now...6.5 cc in a 10 cc band and still do not get stuck on anything. Just chew, chew, and then chew some more and you should be just find with whatever chinese food you want! Enjoy!....in moderation, of course! :o

How far out are you? If you're not too far out of the starting gate, I'd be inclined to stick to things that are very safe, such as egg drop soup---only because Chinese is a problem for many. The veggies can be fibrous, and often are julienned finely enough that they are difficult to thoroughly chew before they "escape" down the hatch. In other words, they stay stringy, which can cause problems.

For me, sugar is also a concern. I don't know if this is something that worries you, but many of the sauces are quite high in sugar, so I'd watch out for that.

I'd choose something in which the Protein was not breaded, and was still moist. I'd want the veggies to be chunky, not julienned, and I'd want the sauce not to be super-sweet. For me, this would translate into something pretty simple like ginger chicken wit broccoli---the chicken and broccoli are in chunks big enough for me to cut into appropriate-sized chunks for my needs, there's no breading, and while the sauce has some sugar, its nutritional info is not too bad. (And man, does it sound good!)

Enjoy your meal!

What Betsy said :-)

But, I'd add that I shy away from anything chicken at Chinese restaurants because it is usually breast meat. I have a terrible time with breast.

So, I'll pick meats I don't have problems with, like shrimp, beef, or scallops (your mileage may vary on the meat choice). I will also often do a steamed veggie dish if available.

I like to get steamed shrimp with veggies. I haven't had a problem with that. Although, I know not all restaraunts have that option. I agree to be wary of the sauce, can be very high in sugar. Also, if it's not steamed, it is typically cooked in a fair amount of oil.

I am in love with egg drop sour and teriyaki chicken w/ veggies (fresh mushrooms, Water chestnuts, zucchini)! I also like shrimp lo mein, lettuce cups, crab rangoon, and shrimp noodle Soup. I cannot eat rice, broccoli, egg rolls, wontons, or beef.

Steamed shrimp, chicken and broccoli, terriyaki chicken and veggies, etc. Also do not know if you have something like the restaurant here where you pick your meat, vegetables, and sauce (Mongolian grill) and they cook. I do that to control my own portion and what goes in it. Chinese is my favorite--I would eat like twice a week--I now eat it about once a month--so hard. Chinese food for me is like chocolate for some--it is my addiction!! However, I know it not the best food, so alas, last night instead of my high fat egg foo young or sesame chicken favorites--I ordered steamed shrimp and vegetables with only a table spoon of the side sauce to give it some flavor. Only time I eat the food now is when I am with someone who wants to eat Chinese for dinner because I do not want to get back in the habit of eating it so much.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
