good foods vs. bad foods to go down!

Recommended Posts

I've been having some trouble recently finding foods that will go down nicely. I eat slowly and in small portions, but certain foods just don't have the right consistency and have trouble going down.

Foods that don't go down (for me):

scrambled eggs

sticky rice (anything sticky in general)

bread (duh)

pieces of oranges

If anyone can help advise me on a list of some more foods so I don't keep running into the same issues that would be great! Soups are awesome (obviously) and so is pieces of cheese.

Thanks!

Your list of trouble foods sounds very normal. They are foods lots of bandsters on this forum have mentioned.

You may want to try turkey chili- always goes down well for me. I eat a lot of fish as well. Of course soft things like yougurt and cottage cheese go down well. I eat marinated chicken breast (perdue perfect portions). The marinade keeps the chicken moist. Hope this helps!

what about Filet Mignon, mash potatos and brocolli? Are those food items easy to swallow, if taken in small bites, and of course chewed really well. I am still pre-op, but my family eats this at least once a week and I'm wondering how I'm going to turn it down. Guess my band will stop me from wanting it.

I would have a big problem with the steak no matter how much I chew.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
