Who gained weight during the "mushy" stage

Recommended Posts

Did you experience weight gain during this stage? When did it turn around for you? I've noticed a 1.5lb change this week since I graduated to mushy's :tt1:

I lost a pound every day for one week straight while on the post-op liquid stage and I was so excited but not for very long I gained all 7lbs. back once I started the mushie stage and increasded my calories back to 1200 - 1500 calories. I have lost some weight since the surgery I do not have any restriction yet but I know some lose slower than others. Lisa.

I lost during both liquids and mushy stages... but less than 1/2 as much during the mushy stage-- and there was a LOT of up and down on the scale from day to day. I'd be up a pound for a few days, then down again..

So- give it time. No worries!

I gained on mushies, once I started getting fills I started losing 2 pounds a week, now as I get closer to goal I am losing .5 to 1 a week. Everything will kick in when you start getting restriction. Be sure and only eat 1 cup of food at a time, so you will be use to it when the fills start. Good luck.

I'm finishing up week 3 and have been on mushies for about two weeks now....I lost 20lbs the first week post op and then went on mushies and only lost 2lbs that week. I think alot of it had to do with the fact that I was eating Potato Soup (put through a blender) like 3 meals a day; and I went back and looked and I was taking in almost 3 times the recommended amount of sodium everyday...so I think I was retaining some water...i went back to more liquids than mushies this week and have really been monitoring my sodium intake...I weigh in on Monday and will know one way or the other if my theory is correct...I think it is because I feel and can see a difference from last week... :tt1:

i am two weeks out and started mushies on wednesday. i thought that being on mushies might slow the loss but oddly enough i have lost three pounds since wednesday. i dunno if this is just a fluke or if it will continue but i sure hope it does. i've been getting alot of Protein in though. doing lots of scrambled eggs and pureed meats. not sure if that would make a difference, but it might.

I am worried about gaining on the mushie stage as I am only getting about 200cals a day at the moment. So surely it must go up when that increases? But hopefully I will be able to exercise by then so maybe that will help.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
