Every place is different. I am going for my endoscopy next week have pre-surgery skills group meetings (4 wks) and exercise instruction (3 wks) then I meet with surgeon followed up with meeting with nutritionist. I also have to go for a sleep apnea test which has also been scheduled next week. I can hear the excitement in your post and want to wish you the best.

It really depends. I got a call telling me my insurance covers banding the day after the seminar.

That, however, was only a conditional approval. At my first meeting with the surgeon, I learned that a great deal more was required, including a three-month supervision.

Endoscopy was not required for me, but all of the other testing and time for final approval added up to about 5 months, total.

Your mileage may vary--you'll get a better feel for it when you have your first appointment with the surgeon. If that doesn't happen until a little farther down the road (some have you do the other prelim stuff first), give his/her office a call and ask what you should expect.

I asked this in another thread, sorry if it's repeated.

Do most dr's require a sleep study and endoscopy? I had a sleep study done in August 2009 wonder if I would have to have another one? I know I have OSA but not treating it with a cpap - can't tolerate it.

I really cannot answer that question I think everyone's group I mean surgeon is diffrent. I know that I had all my work up stuff. but not an endoscopy.. I had an upper GI were I had to drink this white stuff and they check out my inners I had a stress test. eco cardio gram,, blood work,

I have to see the Doc again on April 4th, then I got to go to the dietetion on the 16th and the phyc eval. oh and I was told when I loose 16 lbs so I have lost 7 of that which I am not so worried about that..so I kind of think everyone is diffrent. but I know one thing I would not have it any other way...

Good Luck :)

I think each doctor is different in the way they proceed. I hear some people talking about a pre-op diet where mine has not put me on any sort of diet. I have lost weight on my own (-18) but now am just waiting to hear from surgeon. I dont know if I can tolerate that damn mask either. The tech had it on so tight it left marks on my face for two days.:scared2:

"How soon?" is definitely a question up to your doctor and his/her particular protocol. What tests are required seem to also vary widely. I've had both a sleep study and an endoscopy plus some tests my doctor's new practice doesn't require. One more hoop (I've been at this since last August)- a class this afternoon with my support person. I'm scheduled for May 28, but haven't been submitted for approval yet. I figure they wouldn't schedule me if they weren't pretty darn sure of approval.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
