Hi everyone...I was banded on 3/9/10 and have lost a total of 41#. (30# preop, 11# post). My port has stayed sore beneath it. Skin is tender to touch. I have no redness, hematoma's (bumps), so I don't feel that it is infected. I cannot lay on my left side or my stomach. Today while coughing, I felt a pop and severe burn. The burn is nothing new, I quite often feel it when I roll out of bed or side to side. My question is...do you think I have popped a stitch or two? Is there anyway to tell aside from going back to surgery? I have spoke to surgeon's nurse and she said to address it w/doc when I come in next wk for 1st follow up appt. I should mention that I bent over (approx 8d post op) and picked up little sticks out of yard and have been walking about 2miles almost daily---would this have done it?

Thanks so much

Sue

Gauging by the nurse's lack of alarm--and by everything I've read and experienced myself--I think you very likely can stop worrying about this.

Port site pain is a nagging issue that many of us experience. It just takes a while for our bodies to get used to having that object in there! And when we change positions, etc, there is pulling and tugging that kind of aggravates it, particularly soon after surgery.

I really don't think the level of activity you described would in any way threaten your band.

Let your doctor know about it when you see him. If you're really worried, call back and ask to be seen sooner, for peace of mind.

Good luck!

I popped a stitch a little over a month ago at a Water park. My Dr. checked the placement via ultrasound and it was fine. He said the muscle would be sore for several weeks since the stitch was torn from the muscle, but there wasn't anything to worry about because he used several stitches to secure it. I just babied it for several weeks and it got better. You should ask your Dr. to check it and make sure it is not flipped, because that does need to be corrected.

all this sounds rather "scary". i mean, wouldn't it hurt if the port flipped over? can you feel it when it does the flip?

Thank you for your replies. My port site is still sore and burning, but nothing like yesterday. I am wearing a binder which helps for my cough.

Hope you all have a great day!!:)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
