Is this weird?

Recommended Posts

I've seen lots of posts about food getting stuck and having a feeling in your chest (had it, know about it) but, maybe I missed it, I haven't seen any posts about feeling like maybe you have food stuck in the actual pouch/port area? I feel like it's swollen and full when i push on it by my port. Mine is on my actual stomach. I've seen posts that say pineapple juice or papaya tablets, but I wasn't sure if that's just if you have the pain in your chest? Does anyone know if this is stuck food or normal or what? I have been banded since last May, and I've lost everything but about 30 lbs towards my goal. I was thinking also I might just be able to feel it more since I don't have as much fat covering it anymore? Please help! It feels kind of uncomfortable and like things just aren't passing through right. I've talked to my doctor and they took some of the Fluid out, but I don't have much left to take out. :Banane20:

The pouch is up high, in the top of your stomach, in your "chest" area. Your port should be down low, or at least I think it is for most people, for me it is maybe 2 inches above my navel. So, there is nothing in the port related to food transport through the system. Remember, the port is just the way that Fluid gets to the band. If there is a bulge near the port, it might be a hiatal hernia.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
