I went in for my second fill today, I have a 10cc band and I have 4.5ccs in it. I feel a lot of restriction. I can barley drink Fluid, I feel like the liquid stay sitting in my throat. I told the doctor during my fill when he gave me a glass of Water to drink before I left, he said that I should bare with it, and as the days go by, I will begin to have less restriction. My question is, how long does it usually take to get a little bit less tight after a fill.

I'm a weirdo, so it might not be best to judge by me. I have had 2 fills (total of 4.2 ccs in a 14 cc band). I felt the same way you did with being able to feel Water in your throat, almost like a funnel that had liquid poured into it too fast. It lasted about a week, then it eased up. About 3 weeks after the fill, I actually felt MORE restriction. Now I really need to take small bites, space them out and take my time, as I get stuck quite a bit. It is absolutely bearable now that I recognized what was going on, but initially, it was only a week before I felt looser.

Did I help at all? Lol. Sorry for the novel!

Thank you so much, it did help. I feel like I have a knot in my throat and that the Water is just sitting in my esophagus. I am just worried that I will not be able to get the adequate amount of Fluid intake. I want to feel restriction, but I want to be able to drink fluids. I have thrown up the water twice. I am really trying to keep it down, but it feels like if it is not going through. The doctor said this is what having a lot of restriction feels like. He said it would get better in a few days, but I just hope I don't deydrate.

Take small sips and make the water/fluids last and hour to two hours if you can... The first day after a fill my surgeon would say to stick with liquids as the area around the band was swollen... the next day or day and a half I would be able to go back to regular diet.. The key was the small bites and chewing a lot before swallowing.. then about day 3 I felt restriction but not that uncomfortable feeling.. Just keep it sloooowwww!!! Hang in there! It get's better!

Nancy's right...it usually just takes a day or two for the swelling to get better. In the mean time, sip your liquids and try to stay hydrated. But...if you can't keep the liquids down, you do need to see you doctor and get a small unfill. For me, I could only handle tiny fills. So I had multiple fills, but it worked out ok. My insurance covered it and my doctor is close by.

Just be careful and don't be afraid to call your doctor back, if things don't resolve in a day or two. I've had the swelling last up to a week, but usually it's 24 hours. Since it's only your second fill, you haven't figured out how your body reacts yet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
