3 weeks in - 3 week until adjustment - ate too much today :(

Recommended Posts

Okay - 3 weeks post surgery and I went back to my old habits and totally over ate. Didn't feel anything physically which really worries me. I feel SO guilty! I hope that I didn't do any damage to my band or stretch out my pouch :Banane20: My first adjustment isn't for 3 more weeks. I hope that I have the will power to survive.

Sorry you are having a hard time. It is tough when you don't have restriction. I would focus on eating the right things even if portions are larger than they will be once you have restriction. Be prepared that it may take a few fills for you to get to restriction. It took me 3.

It's really hard when you don't yet have restriction. We have this surgery so that we won't have to diet any longer--and until we do have restriction, it sure feels an awful lot like dieting.

Which sets us up for bingeing, if we're predisposed to that.

What are you eating for typical meals? Are you getting enough good-quality, dense Protein? That makes a big difference, hunger-wise.

When you say you went back to your old habits, what does that mean? Did you have a real binge, or did you simply deviate a bit from your doctor's directives?

The odds of you having caused any damage are very slim; I think you can safely relax about that. But do try to figure out what is motivating the overeating. Is it hunger? If so, try to tweak what you're eating at mealtime, work out an eating schedule that works better, etc. If it's the emotional stuff--and there can be LOTS of that, as we face giving up our old friend, food--you need to tackle that, as well.

It's really difficult when our heads and bodies are saying, "EAT!" and we know we can't/shouldn't. The trick is finding ways to turn those voices off. If you have good alternative activities, that helps. I tend to head out for a walk when the only alternative seems to be eating. At night, I've been known to just go to bed, rather than hear the "eat!" argument in my head any longer.

It gets TONS easier, though, the closer I get to restriction---and the same will happen for you.

I understand what your going through. I am also 3 weeks post op. I have over ate a couple times. I'm eating the right foods I'm just eating to much of it. I have noticed that I'm eating to fast, of course I don't notice it until I'm done eating, lol. Am I causing damage? Am I stretching my pouch? Is the band gona work for me or am I screwing it up? Bright side I get my first fill nxt week. I hope the band starts helping me more.

Good luck and hang in there!!

I feel the same way. I just totally blew it with overeating. I was sooooo hungry and feel NO restriction, and blew it. I get my second fill on 4-2, but feel like a failure!!!! Please help me get back on track!!! I am 6 weeks post op and feel like , did I hurt my pouch or if I can eat anything, without any problem, is something wrong???

Wanna be fit @40, you're not a failure--you're hungry! Believe me, I empathize!

I promise you, it gets better. Our group has a very stringent eating plan, compared to other doctors. No wonder you're hungry! Every day you do well is a big victory! And a bad meal---one when you've overeaten? Well, it's just one meal. It's not a measure of your potential long-term success. You will get restriction, and it will be so much easier to stick to the prescribed eating regimen then.

You'll get Fill #2 next week, and I bet you'll feel LOTS better. If not, they'll get you in early for Fill #3, too. (I go in tomorrow for mine.)

ETA: No--you did not damage your pouch. You can eat anything because your stomach, albeit divided into a small pouch and bigger portion, is emptying almost as fast as it did before surgery. You put food in, and instead of lingering in your nice new pouch and telling your brain, "I'm full," it just passes right through to the larger portion, which says, "FEED ME!"

When you get better restriction, the food will linger in the pouch, send the "All done!" signal to the brain, and then very gradually empty. And then, my friend, you will not have trouble with overeating.

Now, enough self-flagellation!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
