ok so it will be a week since i got my second fill. I now have 5 cc in a 10cc band. I do have restriction in the morning and usually have a Protein shake...but by lunch and dinner i feel like im eating way more than a cup of food. Not as much as i use to eat but definitely not a cup. Is this normal? I got my surgery Jan 26 2010. I thought 5 cc was alot to have already.

I had my surgery on Jan 21st and I too just had my 2nd fill to 5 cc's. I can say I really do not notice much restrictions. I have lost a total of 34 pounds but nothing in the last week. Dr. wanted to get me to 6 cc's but said would not fit yet, so I am going back in a week. I was told that the cc's are based on your weight loss and how often you are hungery. good luck to you.

Wow it took me about five fills for my doc to get me to 4.8cc which I still have now got my band in May'08. Lost 67lbs so far sooo so far so good.Dr Mehta does slow and steady weight loss so I learn how to live with the weight loss. The lapband makers say you lose the weight over 3 years. Its really how the doctor manages your weight loss. With 5 cc your gonna lose weight which goes in dribs and drabs not just one big spurt. Good Luck and happy banding.

I think you're asking whether it's normal to not have restriction with 5 ccs. And yes, it is. I mean, there's tons of variance among people--some get it with less, some need far more--but at 5 ccs, I was beginning to get a hint of restriction (I had times when I felt it), but it was not consistent.

Some people need their bands to be filled right up to the max; others do not. You've got tons of room left in your band, so you don't need to worry about not getting to the right spot before you run out of space :)

Savimama, I think it's probably fair to say that, no matter what our doctors' approaches, all of us are geared toward slow, steady loss (because that's what the band promotes), and striving to learn how to live with our losses. If one thing can be said about this surgery, it's that there are as many opinions as there are surgeons.

I got banded in 6/09 and just past the 5cc mark w/ my fill this past March (3/10). As of that fill, I've lost 67 pounds. My last 2 fills have brought me decent restriction. I was going 8-10 wks btw fills, but have decided to get a smaller fill every month until I reach my sweetspot (hopefully by the end of this summer). My best friend was banded 3 weeks after I was and she has over 8ccs in her band and has reached her sweetspot! I guess the band is truly not a "one size fits all" when it comes to weightloss, fills, and sweetspots.

Vicky--this is the same question I have been asking for a month now. I am in the same boat. I can get nothing down until 11:30, but in the afternoon and evening, I am able to eat way more than I should. I think it's a catch 22. While we are able to eat more in the afternoon/evening, we should try to limit to about 6 ounces because if we got more fill, we wouldn't be able to swallow our own saliva in the mornings LOL (fyi--I have 4.2 cc in a 14 cc band).

I wish I had some advice other than the standard slow down chewing, spacing swallows, and taking 20 minutes to eat your meal. Hang in there!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
