Red and soreness around incision

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if any of you had any redness, itching or irritation around the incision? Could this be a sign of something wrong of just part of the healing process? I called the dr earlier today and have not received a call back so I assume it is not serious but wanted to ask and see if any of you guys had this reaction after surgery. I was banded on Monday and released on Tuesday. Dr told me to shower and remove the bandaids on Wednesday so I did and that is when I noticed the redness. Please advise.

I think all your symptoms are normal. Sometimes the irritation is from the tape. I was banded on the 20th and had all the same sypmtoms, but they all went away. Good luck!

The redness and itching could be a direct link to the bandaids and tape used. Many have reactions to it. If there is no oozing of the port incision or fever or hot to the touch. I would not worry too much, you are most likely either healing or having a reaction from the sticky stuff from the tape and bandaids.

When were you banded? It could be the bandaid. If it persists, I would go see the doctor about it because it could turn to infection, but I wouldn't be too worried....especially if you just recently had your surgery.

The itchiness is normal, that is how your body heals wounds. Ever notice that when a really bad scratch or something is healing up it will start itching? That is normal.

The redness though, might be a reaction to the tape/stitch's/surgical glue. Definitely address that with your doctor. ESPECIALLY if there is swelling, oozing, or heat emanating from the site. If it is just red it is probably just how you are healing. But do NOT take any chances, address this with your doctor for sure.
