twin mom 0 Posted November 9, 2005 I am 12 days pre-op. Iam doing the liquid Protein and surviving. But my doctor says to quit 2 weeks prior to surgery. I am smoking 4 a day now, down from over a pack. I feel bad about this but I am addicted to the nicitine. Anybody out there in the same boat?
tomorrowsdream 0 Posted November 10, 2005 I was a 2-pack a day smoker for over 30 years. I had 5-way-bypass surgery 5 years ago. What a wake-up call. I quit smoking, took up eating, and I'm now facing lap banding, but hey I did quit smoking. I hope you succeed for yourself and your family. I don't wish bypass surgery on anyone. Stick with the Patches. They worked great for 2 of my daughters. Good luck to you. You will be healther without them...and you WON'T gain the weight I did. porclndoll 0 Posted November 10, 2005 TWIN MOM I didnt smoke prior to my surgery. I quit years ago when I found out I was going to have my son. I quit because HIS life depended on it. I got my lap band surgery because MY life depended on it. Its not by any means easy. I haven't smoked in 8 years, and I miss it. But I know that I have made the right decisions and you will too. Good luck to you~~~We are here if you need us..
Firecallie 2 Posted November 10, 2005 My mother smoked for 40 years...then quit with the Nicotene Patches, but found out last week that she has lung cancer, please try to quit, if not for you than for your kids and their future. I don't know what i'm going to do if I lose my mom...

I am smoking 4 a day now, down from over a pack. I feel bad about this but I am addicted to the nicitine.Anybody out there in the same boat? its good you dropped from the 1 pack to 4 cigs! i know its bad but i just didn't smoke 1 day before my surgery.. it doesn't help for sure but i just couldn't quit it completely.. nothing bad happened during my surgery.. but after surgery i was coughing more than the others.. well i know smoking is not good BUT i can't quit 2 things (food and smoking) in the same time.. i can't set 2 huge goals at the same time.. when i ll drop to 170 will be my next goal! soo stay at 4 cigs at least and don't smoke at all 1 day before your surgery. Good Luck to you! even smokers can be banded
CCBSTX 0 Posted November 10, 2005 I know that if you smoke right up to surgery, there can be more complications with breathing. Get it stuck in your head, "I am going to do this if it kills me." Try Patches or anything! It's alot, at once, to feel deprived food-wise and smoke-wise. You are doing terriffic though. It will be all worth it, when you come out the other side. Good luck... Kelliebelly 13 Posted November 10, 2005 I was suppose to give up 2 weeks before but gave up on the day. I got the coughs about 2 days after surgery for a week and it really hurt my port incision when I coughed. I know how hard it is. I stayed not smoking for 4 mths or so but then I took it back up bad me.
Kathy473 1 Posted November 10, 2005 My doctor never told me to quit prior to surgery. hmmm. But then again I only smoke at night and maybe have 4-6 per day. I guess he might have thought that was enough to not have me quit totally.
