Here in So. California I paid $12,200 on my AMEX. This includes overnight stay in hospital, all pre-op testing, psych and 2 years of follow ups and fills. Fills are all done by my surgeon as well.

Hi

I was a self pay patient from san antonio texas. My doctor's office package was 15,000 and it was to the procedure and two years of fills and follow up care. I know it seems like alot but thank God for credit loans it was worth it.

Here in AZ, I paid $100 initial consult fee and then $17,444 for the surgery. That cost includes 18 months of possible complications and 18 months of fills. Pretty much anything & everything for 18 months.

Good luck!

Thank you everyone for all your help and info. I am going today for a fill myself and my mother is coming with me to ask about costs for a self pay.

This is just my opinion of course....but if your dad has insurance, he would probably be better off finding a surgeon in his plan that he is happy with. Don't forget, that if he self pays and has any complications, his insurance won't cover him. Just something to consider.

In fairfield county CT, for my doc it's $18,950.00. The price includes the hospital, surgeon, anesthesia doc, post op check up, lifetime fills, plus monthly support groups with psychologist and nutritionist.

There are also 3 appointments prior which range from 100 to 125 (consult, psych, and nutritionist). Plus I'm sure the Protein shakes cost plenty..I'll find out next month.

I am also in Illinois and also paid $14,900. Wonder if I had the same surgeon as the poster above!

I read all the posts in this thread because I was curious about the differences in cost. I also went to Mexico and was very pleased. American docs do not like Mexican docs though and I have to put up with their attitude, but it is still the most cost effective way to do this surgery. That hospital Angeles in Tijuana is the most beautiful hospital I have ever seen, so fears about mexico are just that, fear. I paid 7000.00

I'm in NJ and I paid $13,500. $5000 to my dr and $8500 to the surgery center. I believe the first 2 fills are included in the 5 grand and every fill after that is $120. My dr is excellent. He does not advertise...goes by word of mouth only. If you'd like more info feel free to PM me.

ps Where in NJ are you? Or how far are you willing to travel?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
