Sorry if this has been asked a thousand times before...but I assume you'll forgive a pre-bandster waiting for my approval and surgery date.

With the multitude of questions I asked during my Surgeon appt. as well as the pre-op teaching seminar, I can't believe it never occurred to me to ask this question...what do you pay each time you go in for a fill?? My surgery will likely be 100% covered and I paid $40 for that first appt. because I guess he was considered a specialist. But what about each fill appt.??? Does the insurance generally cover the aftercare (if fills are even considered aftercare) Is it the same as a regular doctor's visit (so likely $40 each time) or is it something special that costs a few hundred bucks...or somewhere in between.

Anyone else out there with Amerihealth (or not) who was 100% covered with their surgery who can tell me approx. what this will cost for fills?

Thanks in advance.

hmmm...I didn't think to ask my doctor about that either. I know that they are $200 without insurance, but I never thought to ask him how much I would actually have to pay out of pocket!!

I spoke with the Surgical assistant and she said my first 6 fills are covered under the cost of the surgery. I'm paying out of pocket. Any fills after that would be 320.00 per. My insurance doesn't cover. I'm investing in me so I'm eating the cost. Hopefully your insurance will cover the bulk of the cost for fills. My cousin told me that she only used 3 fills in the first year and has never had a fill since. She's had her band for 3 years now. And she looks great. I think she lost about 100 pounds.

Hope that helps.

My insurance covered the surgery and, as postop, I don't even have to make a copayment for fills at this point. (I believe this lasts for 12 months.)

My first fill was a part of my aftercare. I believe that it is considered aftercare for 90 days after surgery with my insurance plan. Then I was told I would have to pay two specialist copays for each fill. One copay for the fill and one for the appointment. I'm still not clear and will take it up with my insurance for clarification.

My fills will be free for the first two years, and then $100 after that.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
