corn or flour tortillas???

Recommended Posts

so i'm getting close to mushie stage and was tossing around food ideas with my sister this afternoon. talking about that had us talking about foods for later in general and she asked about quesadillas. she knows how much i love quesadillas and how i just got a quesadilla maker at christmas and have only used it like two times. so i'm curious... will i still be able to eat tortillas once i hit regular foods? i mean, flour ones are like bread so i'm thinking that's a no go, but what about corn ones? anyone know anything about eating corn tortillas?? and would it matter if they were white or yellow?

I can do corn tortillas just fine. I have taken a few small bites of flour tortillas, but I treat them like and bread and don't each much of them at all.

well, maybe corn will work for me then. i sure hope i can still have at least a piece of a quesadilla every now and then! oh and ashley.... that must be hard being able to stomach "bad" things but not others. wow! i bet you gotta have some kinda willpower! i dunno if i'd be able to say no to the big piece of cake if i knew it wouldn't make me sick.

Corn is easier, 1 small bite of flour caused minor discomfort, and I dont have any restriction.

I've eaten low carb flour tortillas since I got the go ahead for regular food. I love them and eat them quiet often. I make a Breakfast "burrito" with them, use them for my tacos and even make lunch with them by putting, cheese, meat and veggies in it as a roll up. I don't eat the regular ones though, only the low carb ones. They're awesome and I've never had a problem with them. For all my food though, I do put them in the microwave for 30 seconds to make them a little more dry. Works great for me.

I have had a wrap but not really sure if it was flour or corn but as long as I took my time and chewed it was ok

I can eat flour tortillas, and I have 4.2cc in my band. They didn't bother me. I tried Pizza Crust, and it hurt a little. I don't chew well enough though. I am learning.

Low carb tortillas taste like wet cardboard to me , I use whole wheat ones and they work great.

They have whole wheat, spinich, sundried Tomato tortillas, i would opt for one of those. instead of using 2 pieces of tortillas, use one and fold in 1/2..remember our eyes are bigger than out stomachs..hope your doing well!

I use wheat or corn as well, but I can get down flour okay if I chew--I like baking them to make chips--easier to get down as they are not as doughy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
