I finally had my surgery today after due date changes due to weather. My surgery went really well and surprisingly I have very little pain, not even much gas pain. My incisions are just a little sore, but the pain med has been taking care of that. my throat is still slightly sore from the breathing tube and I have been groggy and sleepy all day, but other than that I am well. I am really pleased with my surgeon and the staff.

I am ready to heal and start losing! Does anyone have any tips for coping post op, and then getting their weight loss regimine kicked into high gear? (including exercise, ect)

Thanks, and good luck to everyone else who is post op now!

Glad to hear you are doing well.

I had my surgery today too. Besides a bit of gas pain I am ok too.

What is your post of diet like? Mine is liquids for 3 days and then muchies. A little hesitant to do that so quick.

Any regrets? I have a little mind itch. I know it will pass once I see the results happening.

Wishing us both lots of luck on this journey.

Dee

Thanks guys.

Congrats delopez. I am on Clear Liquids until Wednesday when I head back to the doctor's office to ssee the nutritionist, and then I will be advised about moving on to mushies and so. I don't really have any regrets, except for the head hunger (this evening I keep thinking about the foods I used to eat). However, I am looking forward to the great changes I am going to go through, so I keep trying to push it out of my mind.

Good luck to you!

Where in NJ are you?

Coping? I used my belly pillow and my chap-stick constantly after surgery. :-) Walking helped a lot. As for getting kicked into high gear, follow the rules your surgeon gives you. Mine are:

  • Protein (eat it first and get 70 grams/day),
  • Water (64+ oz/day),
  • Vitamins (I like the gummies from Target),
  • Snacking Stops (don't do it!),
  • Exercise (30 min/day),
  • Smoking Stops (I quit in August).

I made it into a little mnemonic: People Without Vests Sink Every Summer. I go into a little mental checklist every day.

I also take Fiber supplements to keep everything in good order. :-) I use the gummies from Target. I was pretty constipated for a while there! No fun.

I find having a lot of supportive folks around me (at work, at home) does WONDERS for staying on track. And beware of the killer -- some days I'm just not hungry and don't make it to 1000 calories. Not good for metabolism, sad to say.

I also can't say enough good stuff about Couch to 5K. I ran my first 5K a week ago, and it's just an amazing feeling. I am also doing free weights and taking a yoga class. I am so happy to be making time for myself and I know that it's helping me tremendously.

I go for my second fill in three days. Can't wait!

Good luck to you -- it's an experience, and wow, does it make you feel proud of yourself.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
