Drasan 23 Posted March 22, 2010 I'll be getting my first fill in a 6 weeks. I've read a lot about fills using fluoroscopy and just watched a video explaining why fluoroscopy should be used, especially for the first fill. My surgeon doesn't use fluoroscopy to do fills and now I'm worried. Should I request/insist that my first fill be done using fluoroscopy or is it really not that big of a deal? Should I request/insist that my first fill be done using fluoroscopy or is it really not that big of a deal? It's not that big of a deal UNTIL something happens. That's with everything right? I insist on it - I won't get my fills done without it. A lot of people get their fills done without fluoro and they never have an incident. But then there are those who do. I paid out of pocket for mine, and I don't take any chances!

emjay 8 Posted March 22, 2010 No flouroscopies for fills with me either...only to check band placement. The nurse and doc are great about hitting the port the first time, every time. No pain, no problem. Both make you drink a small cup of Water to make sure you are able to get fluids down and suggest staying in the area for a few hours if possible to make sure all is okay in case of swelling. I have had 2 - .1 cc unfills, but only after about 4-6 weeks after a fill. My fills tend not to kick in until about 3 weeks later, then I find I may be a titch too tight. Right now, perfect! Some docs seem to require them, but depending on the experience of the practitioner and you individual history with fills and their expertise, it seems like each time may be a little overkill. Just my opinion. I guess it depends if you have to shell out $$ everytime you get a flouro or not.
Melinco 1 Posted March 22, 2010 I've not had any fills with the fluoro. My doc has me drinking Water during the fill, not just afterwards, to measure how well the water is going down. I get my fourth fill today! Which is a good thing, as I ~ need~ it!
ElfiePoo 109 Posted March 22, 2010 None of my fills have been under fluor and they never had a problem hitting the port and I have restriction. .
Whillow 0 Posted March 22, 2010 I have mine done in the office.. no fluro.. i asked about it once, they said its alot of radiation and they dont use it unless they cant find the port.. never had a problem
dontgoggilme 0 Posted March 22, 2010 as far as i know, my doc never uses flouro either. this is coming from a friend of mine who is almost two years out and has never had flouro used on any of her fills. they told they do the fills in office and the nurse practioner (the dr's wife actually) is the one who does all the fills. in fact, i'm not even sure i'll ever see my actual surgeon again unless i have issues as it's his nurse/wife who does most everything else after the actual surgery. i'm ok with not using flouro as long as it goes well and there aren't issues. i'm hoping there won't be as my doc and his staff are very experienced and considered the best where i live. =)

My port is deep and awkward and he thought we may have to do if under a fluroscope, but he was able to access without it.
onikenbai 33 Posted March 23, 2010 I've never had fluoro, not even to check band placement. I kind of wish they'd use it at at least once to check that the band is in the right place and to see how my restriction is doing, especially since I'm having problems with no restriction to way too much in a very small increment. I'm not even sure my clinic has a fluoro unit.
ashleysara 0 Posted March 23, 2010 My doctor doesn use flouro for any of his patients and he said he has never had a problem. If you doctor uses flouro I would ask him to do it without (LOL that could go badly) but if he is experiences at doing it without I dont think its a big problem. At lease its never been for me
