Banded 3-5 *Questions*

Recommended Posts

I was banded 3-5 and was on liquids week 1 (no pre-op diet). That first week I lost 20 pounds (I know this was a very large amount and mostly Water weight). Week 2, I was on mushies and now I am on soft food. In the last week and a half since starting food, I have gained 2 pounds. My calorie count is around 600 (allowed 3 X 1/2 cup portions of food/day and 2 X 1/4 cup "snacks" per day). My question is the following - when will I start to loose "real" (meaning non water)weight? My first fill is 4/15 and that is when I will be allowed to begin a regular diet.

THANKS!!

First of all, congrats on your new band!

It's not uncommon for a little weight to return when solid food is reintroduced. Some of this is purely mechanical--there is just MORE stuff in your intestine when you hop on the scale.

In terms of when you'll see "real loss," it depends. A lot of people focus on healing at first, and do not really restrict (more than the band forces) their intake until they achieve good restriction. Others of us are more stringent about limiting our intake (yes, dieting) right off the bat...and see losses sooner.

Either way, you'll lose. It's easy to have buyer's remorse early in the game, when you're starving and the stupid scale tells lies about what you've gained. But with a little time, you'll start seeing the results. It's well worth the wait!

After you get banded, its a time of healing..I only lost 3-4 lbs till I got filled, after the first fill only 7..now its coming off good since the second fill.. It takes time to get it its best working place. For now its time to heal...it will come off before you know it! I've been alot slower than others on here..but know I'm heading the right way...Hang it there!

During the mushy stage you have a hard time getting Protein.

With 600 calories you could possibly not be getting enough to eat either.

What do you eat in a particular day? Are you drinking enough Water?

Honestly overall you are doing great, if we could figure our bodies out this board would not be needed!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
