I had a pretty bad weekend. I didn't eat anything that I shouldn't have or too much of. Unfortunately, I just had a bad combo of great weather and good friends watching basketball and had entirely too many beers this weekend. I will punish myself in the gym all week but just wanted to confess to my Bandster family.

No need to confess; eating isn't a moral issue. Exercise isn't punishment, either--it's a lovely insurance policy

Did you have fun?

Yea that's also where a lot of the guilt is coming from, I had too much fun lol. Scared of falling back into my old ways and bad habits

OMG. I am in the same boat as you. What a bad beer and food weekend. I had a great time, but I totally fell off the wagon. I feel like I am back to the old me. I have to go get a fill. I am calling today. I should not be able to eat everything I ate this weekend. I also drank beer, I am sad to confess.

I just got my band 4 days ago and I thought that you were not able to tolerate beer with a lap band?

I'm thrilled to hear that you had beer! I was just banded and I thought it was out of my life forever. I've never been one to drink a lot of beer. One or two and I'm good. But I do love a good beer every now and then.

I'm more a wine gal myself. Again, not too much, 1 or 2 glasses and I'm done.

I like Betsy's perspective, "did you have fun? and exercise is an insurance policy" very nice thoughts. :o

Fun is a good thing. Really. We're all in this to learn how to live with not just our bands, but ourselves.

I understand the fear of returning to old habits---but let me ask you this: did the band affect how you were able to indulge? I bet you found that you were more mindful---and that your band "enforced" some constraints, as well.

And that's just what it's supposed to do!

A weekend with some beer---back to the routine on Monday. Good things.

The Japanese have a couple of sayings related to 8/10 of a whole. One of them is "hara hachibun." It means, basically, "eat until you're 8/10 full." This is a good one for bandsters--if we stop when we're still comfortable, we don't wind up being bonked over the head with that sudden, accidental, "Whoops, too much!" feeling.

The other is about eating properly 8/10 of the time. If we all just did this---made sure that at least 8/10 of the time, we gave our bodies just what they needed and nothing more---we still have room for indulgence and still stay on track, in terms of weight loss.

I just got my band 4 days ago and I thought that you were not able to tolerate beer with a LAP-BAND®?

Doctors are so different, mine says no beer, no soda pop! He just explained that it is hard on the band..and that you invested alot into it so take care of it..Im self paid so I want to do anything I can to insure its life. I know that when I went to another seminar with a different Doctor, he said pop and beer wasn't a problem! So I do keep that in mind....but I traded diet pop for tea and I prefer wine anyways! :o

I think I am in need of a fill. When I was first banded or when I feel any restriction I would try to have a beer and after only a few I would really feel full and bloated. Unfortunately I had none of that this weekend. But I would like to thank everyone for not letting me beat myself up too bad

It depends on the person I have tried beer, it causes me pain so I stay away. My band is pretty tight. If I induldge its vodka and diet cran.....70 cals.

Hi Todd, glad you are "back on the wagon". I just wanted to know when you were banded. If you were banded recently I would strongly suggest not introducing beer back in for several months or a year. The carbonation and foam in beer can cause severe complications. A person in our group had emergency surgery to have their band removed after having 2 beers 8 weeks after surgery. This could be a very rare case, but just wanted to let you know to be very careful.

Thank you for your concern. I was banded back in November. I have had a beer here and there but this past weekend was certainly the most I've had thus far.

Enjoy your life! Sometimes, that means having a few beers. As long as you get back on the horse and don't do it every day

BTW, what kind of beer?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
